WOW, Stephen! Just wow!! Beautiful...
I'm curious...was it hard to get it right? I mean, I'm thinking I would have to try several times before getting something that good!
Love it!

The "card" was a series of photographs with different messages, so I definitely tried a few things and got pretty good at writing backwards and timing 30 seconds (I didn't have my shutter release/timer/remote for longer exposures). I also had to get a sense of the focal length I was shooting and how to fill the frame without being behind the camera.
Musickna, yes my wife enjoyed the card very much and was intrigued with the process I used to create it.

Wow there's some fantastic images so far!!! Nice topic. [Y]
Here's my entry - it's an oldie but is my favourite long exposure.
This was a compilation of 426[:O]x 10sec shots (in continuous shooting mode)stacked, and a further 10sec exposure with some light painting to highlight the foreground.Luckily I have a battery grip otherwise I don't think the camera would have lasted that long!
Cheers,Ben.

Sorry a bit of a braincramp there. That is definetely not slower than 1 second. It was a fifth or around there with a Canon E-50 1.8 II. The spinny lights got me thinking about time exposures and I posted it by mistake.
I love this set. We will really have a hard time voting! You all really have some awesome long exposures!

exposure time close to one hour, iso 100.
Wow, there are really some great shots here! Once again, I'm enjoying these assignments!
Here's my (completely futile) addition to the mix:

Hope you like it!

Despite the power lines [8o|], it is one of my favorites.

Shea Design, those are two impressive photos, especially the first one.. Great bokeh and colors! I look forward to the voting. :)
Voting? What have I gotten myself into! Hey thanks, pretty experimental really - and the cross, well I did not even know that couple was up there until my sensor baked them in.. hehe. I better go to work. -S
Wow Shea Design,
That cross picture is just amazing. I have to say this is the best assignment yet. Everyone has some amazing photos. Too bad this world is such a place that they have to have a 10' high security fence around the cross so no one will damage it [:(].
Fred~
cross picture stopped me in my tracks. WOW!
Very cool, thanks! I don't think I've gone to ISO 3200 since taking that exposure... need to get out to the high dessert and really heat up that CMOS. So glad you like.

Awesome idea for an assignment--too much fun! Here's one of my favorites:

Nice Aaron! Very graphic look, sharp and vibrant. -S
Thanks very much! I'm still trying to get my brain to rationalize your lovely T/S street shot above, by the way. Such a great look...

This does not compare at all to the quality of images already posted, but to be a part of the assignment here is my submission.

Dave we are our worst critic, I was just thinking here is the new winner! Perhaps my affinity for piers is clouding my judgment. I've found various subject do resonate (or not) with different viewers and have embraced it as an interesting undertone of photography. -Shea
Not nearly as good as the rest here either, but just wanted to have an entry. I like long exposures, but when looking through my photos, I have taken alot, but few turn out the way I had envisioned. Guess I just need more practice!

1 sec exposure at appeture F-18

I can honestly say I tried to complete this assignment twice this week...and I was quite unsatisfied with my results both times. I wouldn't even put my name on the best of what I got..

Sean was it a technical issue or just bad timing? I tried one at the ocean but I seem to recall that it was so bright I could not get enough shutter time out of my exposure triangle, iso 50 f/22...
There are not exactly many streams and falls around my area, especially not photogenic ones, but perhaps I will have another go and we can compare notes.

Actually I tried a 1 second self portrait on both occasions, and simply failed. Last night I wanted to take a shot low to the ground looking up at myself getting into my car. Unfortunately, by the time I set everything up the light had faded more than I wanted it to. Then I forgot to set my camera to AF (I had it set to Manual focus). Then it was so dark that I had lost all ambient light (even at 1 second exposure) and I couldn't even AF (even with the AF on). Total waste of time...
This evening I went straight from work to my grandmother's house (which is actually quite close to work). The sky looked beautiful and there was still daylight (originally I had not intended it to be a 1-second exposure). However, as soon as I got the first lightstand up, the sun went behind a cloud and the three strobes I had pointed into the PCB PLM was way over the top (as I wasn't battling with the sun). Finally I decided to try a 1 second exposure, but I never got a frame that was anywhere near what I wanted. I've had to accept complete failure two nights in a row.
So I decided to come home and do something I can't fail at--watch TV and drink beer. ;-)
Sounds good, and tomorrow is another day. -S

Am I the only one who looks at that cart and thinks, "Yep, I remember being single..."
And what's the difference between the "single" shopping cart and the "college" shopping cart? The absence of Ramen noodles.
I think we just found our winner!
There are so manny great images! This might call for a "Post your best long exposure" thread.. I'm thoroughly enjoying the entries!
