They are not planes they are shooting stars. How can you delete three falling meteors caught in one image:-)
Unsharp mask on the highest setting, dang, you're right!

That is beautful william. Well done.
Now that is cool, William!

Statistics: The .zip file with the RAW file in it has been downloaded 84 times so far. Perhaps we can enjoy some more edits this week [A]
I know I tried, but I didn't really succeed [A]
Hi, this was an interesting assignment - fascinating how the exact same original can be interpreted quite differently. I have a favorite among some great contributions so far, but I won't tell which one yet.
My idea was to make a photorealistic interpretation rather that something artistic. It worked out OK but the finished image still didn't really appeal to me. After a while I found out that I like this image much better in black & white, so I did some BW tweaking that ended up in a result I like.

OK William, now that the shooting stars more obvious I love them!
Obviously taken during the Leonid meteor shower or some equally rare astronomical event.
Hi Jan
Here's my take of the assignment 22. I used NIK Software. Had fun doing it.

Just in case nobody believed that I could see a koala in the tree on the ridge, I did another one. This will be it.

That's not a Koala..... that's a Wombat Steve[:)]
Here is is another version with an old grainy vintage look. I would like this one to be my submission for the competition.

Cropped a little tighter than the surreal HDR image, converted to B&W in ACR and added a little tint and vignette, added noise, added grain with a texture filter, added some faint scratches, blurred the water a bit and made the image softer and added a little glow by duplicating the layer and changing the screen mode and opacity. That's about it I think.. :)
Brilliant assignmnt, heres mine;
Bit of HDR, some bent pixels, blurs, levels and lots of layers masks and erasers.......

Here is mine. A little bit of everything, including two layers, one B/W and one colour, superimposed. All done in Photoshop CS3.

Allright! Great photos everyone! [Y]
It's already the 27th here and we're 91 downloads down the line, so it's time to put an end to all of the editing and time to get started with the final steps of the assignment[:D]
I will notify Freelanceshots that the finalist may be selected and hopefully we have a poll online very soon.
Thanks everybody!
Ps: I haven't heard any complains or difficulties with the downloading process, so i guess it worked out well? That's good to know, we might do it again sometime[A]
Congratulations to the five finalists! It's now time to select a winner, so please vote.
Thanks everone who participated in this assignment in any way[Y]
The finalists this assignment were never this close. With just 1 vote difference to 3 other competitors we do have a winner:

<span style="font-size: medium;"]Congratulations William on winning this assignment! [Y][:D]
Congrats William, nice effort.
Thanks everybody! Apparently there was virtually nothing in the votes to separate the entries so everyone deserves a pat on the back[*]
I would also like to thank everybody for welcoming me to this site. I usually don't get actively involved in internet communities, I'm one of those people that glide through anonymously, read the bits that interest me and move on. What got me interested in joining you guys' was how you all treated each other with great respect and share polite and fun conversation. You also share a wealth of information and diverse experience. I hope I can contribute similarly.
I'm not sure if anyone is interested in how I did my edit, but if you are then this is the basic outline:
- Opened the RAW image in Lightroom and exported it 3 times as a TIF (-2 stops EV, normal, +2 stops EV)
- Combined the images as one creating a HDR. I used Photomatix for this but Photoshop or even one of the free HDR programs would have worked.
- Opened the image in PS and applied a noise filter and sharpened the image as much as I could without making it look obvious. Sized the image for web.
- Back to Lightroom and played with the settings until I got a nice contrasty BW. This is where the sky got darkened (but there were no local adjustments, it was all global).
- Saved - Done!
The <span style="text-decoration: line-through;"]colour image oops! sorry'color' (I'm in Australia), was done with the Topaz Clean plugin for PS and LR.
Irecieved a few comments about the stars, this was easy and took literally about 5-10 minutes. I added a layer in Photoshop and with a tiny white brush set to about 15% opacityI clicked in some dots. Single clicks for dim ones and multiple clicks for bright ones. A white blob for the comet and the street lights were just a larger brush. Tip: if you click on a point and Shift-Click on another point, you'll make a straight line - I used this technique for the light casts.
Good luck everybody for the next assignment!
Congrats, William!! You did a fantastic job on this!
Denise
