Re: Post your best Black and White Photo
Thanks Brian and William!
@Elmo, I love the 2nd shot of the bike and lamp post.
@Mark, Beautiful shot of the Bride on the piano.
@ William, Wonderful dichotomy of the 2 kids, not only in their expressions, but also in their matching shirts; his is unbuttoned, stained and wrinkled, and hers is all buttoned up, pressed, and spotless.

Re: Post your best Black and White Photo
I really love B&W photos and the ones posted here are fantastic!! I have a really tough time getting the B&W effect I'm going for but it is alot of fun trying!
Here are two I just did ...

Re: Post your best Black and White Photo
Wally this is a very good photo. The context determines its appropriateness. If it was placed in a joke email then clearly it would be distasteful, but images like these have their place. This photo documents a very real facet of our human condition and I would hope that it would bring our attention to the plight of the less fortunate. Not many of us in the West realize that this kind of poverty represents a substantial portion of humanity. It

Re: Post your best Black and White Photo
@Denise, like the second one the best, just the wire across the eyes is a little annoying.
@Wally, very gritty realistic shot, great exposure.
Good work both of you.

Yes, see those gulls in the distance? I was trying to capture them but was short on focal length[;)]

Re: Post your best Black and White Photo
@ hippoeater, looks like difficult lighting with the bright BG and exposure on the fir.
@ Joel, did you use a TS lens for this shot, nice lines.

I used the 28-135 mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens hand held with the 1D3
Topaz Adjust for the B&W conversion and sharpening and Topaz Denoise to clear up the sky.

Re: Post your best Black and White Photo
I hadn't really considered doing B&W conversions until I saw this topic, but it has prompted me to look back at some recent photos to find suitable candidates. Here is a group of marine iguanas in the Galapagos.

Ham...great composition..I feel like I'm falling in. Very cool!
Joel...Incredible detail on the dove. What lens?
Andy...love the Iguanas! when you went to the Galapagos Islands, which travel agent did you use? The reason I ask, is , Where I deliver UPS at in Aptos CA, I some customers called "Galapagos Travel", and there, Mark Granthom is the owner(and friend who is also a photographer!). Just wondering if you know of or have heard of him. He's always at the Islands at least twice a year!! Just asking...

Gregg,
I book most of my adventures with Exodus, and I have never been disappointed. I'm in the UK, so I haven't heard of your friend's company, but I wish I had his job!

Re: Post your best Black and White Photo
Joel... I thought you had the 300 2.8...very nice!! One of my customers has the 200 2.0 that he said he'll let me borrow...been jonesin' pretty bad for it, too!!
Joel...that's an awfully long way to go to shoot Iguanas...!! Just kidding....
Cheers,

It's a breathtaking shot! The kind of thing I'd want on my wall. There seems to be a bit of colour banding in the sky though -is thatjust an artifact of squeezing it onto a webpage?
-
Re: Post your best Black and White Photo
w349...WOW...thank you for the comment!! I exported the photo from LR3.4 into CS5...did my usual post to it in color, then decided to do BW on it, so I copied the image via CS5. But in doing the copy command, I created a different file. The original went back to LR when I was done, but the BW had to be saved as s tiff, then re imported back into LR. Then...sorry...I have a resize action via windows that brings images to a more normal size for viewing, and that , I think, is where the banding came to be!! Whew...so to answer you question...yes!!

Re: Post your best Black and White Photo
Nice work. I like the tonal transition from Black (tree silhouette), to Grey mountains, to white sky. Have you cooled it off with a blue adjustment or is that just my eyes playing tricks?
-
Re: Post your best Black and White Photo
This was barely a keeper for me because some of the tones and detail aren't quite right, but a few people liked it so...
