It's been a very weird few days for me and my photography.
Tried going out to take shots for the new assignment the last few days, missed good light twice, got chased by cows, left my camera at work last night, tonight I forgot to swing past the bed shop on the way home to pay off my new bed before it gets delivered tomorrow, home late because I went taking photos instead (got some great shots of sunset light in misty rain, nearly crashed the car trying to stop in time then ran back and missed the good shot), got about 2m away from a wild kangaroo on the side of the road (got some headshots with my FL 55mm), and then when I'm finally home and cooking dinner I go to the bathroom and see this guy on the floor, so I have to take some shots of course (almost forgot i was meant to be cooking dinner). And now it's just started with the lightning outside, so I may as well go outside and try get that too.
But in the meantime, I have no freaking idea what this is. He was really slow so was either half asleep or just born (no idea what is the gunge on his eyelids, from an egg or just moulted?).
Anyone know South Australian Lizards?

Cool lookin' little guy.....maybe some type of Gecko?
I love the 4th shot, great pose and detail in the eye is awesome:)
I agree with Joel, the headshot is my favourite. I think it's a Common Smooth Knob-tailed Gecko, Nephrurus levis levis.
Thanks, that looks like him. It's weird if this is the 'common' type, I've never seen one before (and certainly not being dopey inside, I did put him outside after all the photos though). According to here, it's found all over Aus.
Normally what i see around here are what this guy calls a 'marbled gecko' (or any number of other 'skinks' on that page.
Also he's got one of the ones I had, calls it a 'Barking Gecko' (he said he found it near the Onkaparinga Gorge, which is not too far from my place), under a totally different latin name.
Maybe I'll email some pics to friends at the museum, they might know.
And yeah, the 4th is also my favourite, click on it and you can get a full 10MB original. Wasn't bad for an EF 100mm f/2.0 @ f8 or so, 7D, some combination of Kenko tubes, M at 1/160s, and 430EX in ETTL, camera-mounted and reflecting off the walls, shower screen, and toilet bowl. Processed in Landscape of all styles (made his colours best, with 0 saturation), bit of contrast and that's it.
Doc, what a ride. Wish someone had taken photos or video of some of that. You should have your own reality show, "Life of a photography enthusiast", or "Kangaroos and Lenses".
Very Hallmark-looking. I like the PP a lot.
Lovely texture Denise, it DOES look like greeting card or stationary material, cool!
In this image of rusty bolts I added a texture but only to the out of focus areas:

Time to give this thread a bump. Had the opertunity to take a few flower shots. Some are kind of soft. That was done in post... I kind of like the look on roses.

Those are beautiful shots, Pat!! The 2nd and last one are my favorites! I always hesitate using a soft filter in post because I think people will think I can't take a sharp macro shot but when other people use it, it looks magnificent. Your photos prove that!
Great photos Pat, Joel, and Denise....I really like everything on this page.

That moth is in the matrix!?! Oh, nice shot too.

Thought I would revive this thread! Not too much macro shooting going on this time of year I guess so I just processed one from this past summer.
A few textures added ...

Joel & Denise - Nice flowers. I don't get to see many of those lately.
We had a little freezing rain this morning... so out came the macro.

It's really cool observing the growth of plants..this one grew from nothing to blooming in just a couple days.

Here is my first ever attempt at focus stacking, 7 shots.
Fun fact #1 - All the top coins happened to be minted in 1980, I didnt notice this until I straightened out the faces for the pictures, quite the coincidence.
Fun fact #2 - There is $3.99 here. 7 quarters, 16 dimes, 14 pennies, and 10 nickels.

Beautiful flowers, Pat and that shot of the coins is fantastic, David!! BTW - That might still get you a gallon of gas where I live!

Valentine's Day brought bulbs this year and some early bloomers. Here is a 6 shot stack of a tulip. Taken with 20mm tube and a 24-70mm.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-l...2520Flower.jpg
Very cool shot, Jayson! Where the heck do you live in the Midwest to have tulips blooming already!?
Nebraska. They are in a plant I bought the wife for Valentine's Day. I have an iris, something else that is really smelly, and a tulip. They aren't lasting long...I don't have a green thumb.
A couple more macros to get this one going again.
Snowflakes were from this morning. I think next time I might try something different than construction paper. I think it detracts from the flake.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-p...07D_031503.jpg
And from the now dead plants. These didn't last long with my green thumb. I took this with an extension tube on a 24-70 and stacked 6 shots to get the full depth of the flower.
https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-K...31462-Edit.jpg
nice macros - at first I thought they were gigantic snowflakes on the ground in the forest ...
Haha exactly what I was thinking too. Nice shots, but I agree that the background kinda distracts.
Thanks Arnt! I used a whole bunch of kenko products to get them that big. They are fun to capture and see the differences.
Thanks Jan! This was my first outing this year with snow, but I really need to find something to shoot them on next time. I ran into the same trouble last time I tried (used a rubber mat last time).
Macro's of blown-out matches from today:

For what it's worth: no cropping here. I used my 100mm macro with I believe 68mm of extenders.
