Re: Post your best bird shots!
Thanks guys, I normally don't bother with the lorikeets because they're too fast, small, and far away (and even when they're not, they always seem to be on the other side of the flower and i never get a direct shot of them.
The above i posted was already cropped, i'll stick the original below. I've tried cropping it again, but cropping is one thing i always fail at.
I've been playing with rule of thirds, seeing as the Gimp gives nice guidlines when selecting rectangles. This one i've put the bottom-middle third line at the house-roof boundary, the middle-top line goes just about through his eye, the left-middle line is at his neck-colour line, and the stick goes through the middle of the right third.
So I don't know what looks better, i don't mind the original but cropping brings out more detail, any suggestions more than appreciated :)
.
So, original:

Re: Post your best bird shots!
Here is the crop I was suggesting....the only problem is the roof line in the BG is a little distracting but you cannot always control these things

Thanks Bob....I came to SC to go fishing but the fish are not cooperating as much as the birds....I have had some nice opportunities on Great Egrets and Great Blue Herons, this is a different lake from where we were this spring for the Osprey.

Re: Post your best bird shots!
Joel, that PP on the egret is very interesting, very creative. love it!. also nice wing position on the GBH in flight.
Dr. that was a great catch, Joel cropped it to the landscaping version which looks great, however I am kind of like the portrait version more because of the vertical branch and I like to see more orange color in the BG. so I edited your picture like this:

Re: Post your best bird shots!
Nice timing, Joel! Very graceful shot!
Re: Post your best bird shots!
Joel, very good exposure on the white, also like the pose of the egret!
Re: Post your best bird shots!
I saw a shot somewhat similar on Juza's portfolio and he selectively darkened imagearound the Egret.
Here is the picture of what I am talking about,
