Nice work Baker.
Great work Baker
+1
So there was an October Nor'easter/powerful snow storm over the weekend. In New Hampshire 6-12 inches of snow fell (I've heard reports as high as 24 inches in isolated areas) which is very unusual for October. There were wide spread power outages from Pennsylvania to New Hampshire (NH had 300,000 w/o power at the peak). While this wasn't a great foliage year around here, snow and what is left of the foliage is a unique combo....so I took a drive after the storm.

The snow has mostly melted by now and I believe most have their power back (mine was out 38 hrs).

Ha, I heard about that storm, and the first thing I thought of was that it would make great pics with autumn leaves against the snow (but I would have felt a bit weird requesting some, expecially since it was a bit of a deadly storm).
Love the first one for all the colours, third one too, just beautiful.
Taken this morning at the Parker River NWR....
All shot with the 7D, 100-400L @ 400 mm, the first two were 1/800, f/5.6, ISO 100 and the third was 1/1250, f/8, ISO 400

Great shots Brant. I like the Harrier(?) but my fav is the crane, great POV, comp and light!
Cheers
Damian
Wow Brant those are some awesome photos! I love the way the colorful fall foliage looks with the snow-covered ground. At least something good came out of the storm - some very unique photo opportunities!
Nice work Brant, I loved the snow and Autumn colours.
Thanks everyone. Glad you liked the pics. The snow is mostly gone and everyone I know has their power back (but some just got it back on Friday). It will actually be in the high 60
Kayaker:
I really like a the fall colors and snow together. That would be neat to see.
Nice birds too.
Brant - Those snow covered autumn photos are fantastic! Definitely calendar material, I

Great shots Brant. Glad we haven't seen snow here yet, but we did catch the same weather system a few days later. Fortunately it was just a bit wet and windy by the time it had crossed the Atlantic, and today we had the same blue sky and sunshine that you enjoyed after the storm, so off I went with the camera...

Looking at this now, I think I should have also tried a polariser to cut the reflections from the wet rock on the left.
Andy - Nice shooting, as always! I typically use polarizers with waterfalls, but really it's a matter of choice. Sometimes the rocks look good with a reflective shine.
It is "shoulder season" in the mountains, too late for hiking & biking, but still a tad early for skiing. So it's nice and quiet ---- the perfect time to get out for photography.

I also went for a stroll in Marble Canyon, which is normally packed with tourists in the summer but totally devoid of people today... very nice. These branches were near the waterfall, and frosted up due to the spray.
Canon 5D2, 70-200 f/2.8 lens, 1/640 sec @ f/8, ISO 100. (I should have used f/11 or f/16 for just a bit more depth of field.... oh well.)

Andy - Nice shots. I usually have a polarizing filter on my camera when I am shooting waterfalls so I can see the detail in the rocks better, but what irritates me is when I go from landscape to portrait and forget to rotate the filter... and then I do not notice until later when I get home. It happens way to often. You would think I would learn after awhile.
Jonathan - Beautiful elk and frost. Isn
Freelanceshots - That is cool.
For Autumn shots everyone seem to have close-ups that isolate a leaf or a few leaves. Sorry... it is probably over done, but here is my version.
Found this leaf floating along the shallow edge of a pond with the dew of the morning still on it. I just wish it was flipped over to the colorful side.

All that with a cellphone...nice one!
I love watching this thread as I see seasons progress and so much different types of photos in one thread. Beatiful!
I was shooting a local soccer game (NH D3 Girls State Championship) and was given the opportunity to shoot with a 300 2.8. I think it may have been a mistake, because now I'm ready to remortgage the house, or tell my daughter she has to come home from college. I now know why you see so many of these on the sidelines of pro games.

oh, forgot to add exif info (7D, 300 2.8 shot at 2.8, 1/1600, iso 100)
Just trying the new features....I am still processing all of my photos from Parker River NWR....;):rolleyes:

EDIT...ok, these should have been 800 x 533 (or vice versa). So, a few kinks to still be worked out....
Just a demo to see if I can still get this to work!
I keep getting invalid URL. Any suggestions?
Nice shots Brant, i don't mind them this small because when you click on them you get to view them large but with the grey surrounding, that makes the images a little easier on the eye.

I can't figure out how to post from Url. I just keep getting "Invalid URL". Oh well...here's a cat.
The snow is continuing to fall in the mountain parks, which bodes well both for photography and skiing.

@Mark (Clemmb)--interesting shots--I would love to have a couple of branches off of that tree for my bird perches.
@Mark S.---Gorgeous shot, love the creamy bokeh---This shot really pops--almost 3d,
Nice job
Nice images Mark, tortured, distressed and dead trees make very good B&W's.
Steve
Oh deer, what a shot Mark, it does have some pop.
Steve
@ Mark S - Welcome to the forums! Very nice deer shot! Looking forward to seeing more wildlife photos from you!
@ Mark - The shots of the trees is fantastic! Definitely perfect subjects for b&w!
