I really like that last one Denise! Usually, when I happen upon deer in action, all I see is their tails bounding away from me.

Thank you! There are hundreds of deer in this state park and most are too tame. I think it is due to people feeding them when they shouldn't be.
Really nice Pat - Tv just right IMO. The first one is my favorite.

Thank you Damian.

Pat, you've inspired me to post some water-blur shots of my own....thank you.
Shot on the mid-north coast of BC in Bella Coola. There was a huge flood there in Sept 2010 and out company was dispatched to oversee the flood clean-up works. I was lucky enough to have some time to shoot in this BEAUTIFUL part of BC.
This was one of the first water-blur shots I ever attempted. Comments and critiques welcome, of course. The tight shot was intentional.
5DII with 50 f/1.4 @f/11, 0.8s, ISO 50. I think I put my touque on a rock, set the camera down and set mirror lock up and 2 sec timer
Post processing in LR3 (warmed it up quite a bit). I have to say, I am quite addicted to water-blur. I love the contrast between motion and stillness (if that's a word..lol)

Damian - Looks really good. That must have been fast moving water to get that much blur at 0.8 sec exposure. I like that you improvised with no tripod... you have to make due with what you have. I was in Japan this fall and did not bring a tripod, and had to do the same thing to get some sunrise and waterfall shots.
I do like long exposures - the detail really comes out, and if you can get moving water in the shot, I think it just enhances things. I probably over do it, but I enjoy it.
Thanks for sharing.
Lancer - Nice beach shot. How high up were you when you took that shot?
Thanks Pat! Yes, compared to other streams i've shot this one was fast - water velocity about a meter per sec. Its a high-gradient straight-shot out of a very steep watershed. The surrounding mountains are ~3000m in elevation and feel like they right on top of you. Beautiful place.

Thanks for the compliment.
I know all of you are probably growing very tired of seeing my deer photos but there really isn't a whole heck of a lot to choose around here this time of year and they are much more cooperative than my dogs! :p

Keep them coming Denise, don't get those kind of shots around here, I love em'.
Denise - There very nice shots and I enjoy them.
Thank you ...there are plenty more where these came from! :D
Denise, Very nice and....I never get tired of deer pictures.
Her is one that I did a "little" Photoshoping on---Joel was my mentor on this one, What do you think?

Very cool application, Bob! I have applied this to a few of my deer photos but ended up deleting it because I ddn't know if it would appeal to others! I like what you did very much!
Here is one I did tonight that I'm not too sure about. I like your application Bob much better! I think the noise in mine is from when I applied the sepia first and added grain.

This is one of my all time favourite so far...so lucky to have that composition and lighting at the same time :)
Here are some from the DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge. I think these qualify as nature???? Little story behind these...the refuge where these were taken was under 10 feet of water last summer from the Missouri River flooding. Where there use to be miles of vegetation and wildlife, there is now a muddy mess. For example, I didn't notice most of the poison ivy hanging from some of the trees since they weren't covered with vegetation and were just the vines themselves. My friend pointed them out before I did any real damage to myself. Apparently the vines, even dead, still can give you a nasty case of the itchy scratchies for up to 5 years.

Nice shots jayson. Love #4.
Yep, #4 is my favorite also, Jayson although all of them are very good! I really like the lighting on #4.
I like baby shots, but it is still early in the year for those.
The best time to find the big ones is when they are wanting to make the babies. This fellow was in a Kansas field, and I walked fairly close to him. He would have never run at all and I could have gotten real close, except for one thing. The doe he was courting decided she wanted to run, he wouldn't budge as long as she didn't. The rut has already passed and the antlers are going to be falling off soon. But...later in the spring when the antlers are in velvet we can get some good pics. This guy is probably a 1/1000 deer, even in Kansas you don't see them this big that often.
This time of year once the antlers fall off, it gets hard to get interesting shots. Our next big chance will be spotted babies in a few months.
If I get in a wildlife rut.. or just want to make it easy on myself.. I can always go shoot these old men.

That's what you shoot when you are in a rut!? I would be so excited to capture a shot like this, much more exciting than shooting doe! Fantastic shot, Rocco!
Good day for finding some difficult to shot animals. I was headed out to go do some walking around a local pond and found a Snow Owl just down the road from my house. Then I found a beaver in the pond.
Later in the day I found the Owl on a much more photogenic perch (same place I saw him yesterday), but he was to far away... I need to go talk to the owner of the property and see if I can get a better pic in the future.

Fantastic day for you, Pat!! Both shots are great! I went looking for a snowy owl today but once again I came up empty. I think they are long gone from my area now. I sure hope they return next winter!
This is a Mule Deer from my trip to New Mexico, it was standing close to the road so Bob Williams graciously stopped to let me take a few shots....it was so close I could not get it all in the frame with the 500mm lens I had been using for birds!

Thanks, Bob! I just received an email from Portal Wisconsin that they chose it for their home page, only for the day though I think but still pretty cool ...

Very nice Denise! I hope you took a screen-shot already;) It's not published very large, but it does link directly to the photo on Flickr which is very nice.
The photo is very peacefully with great colors. I also like the moving boat. Great shot:)
