Yeah. I'm always a bit behind the times. Right now I'm sitting here listening to my vinyl collection wearing bell-bottoms and a Jedi warrior t-shirt...

Congrats Sean. Now it's out of stock, looks like you got one of the last ones of this batch.
Congrats on the purchase Sean. Great deal on a very great camera. Lets see some test shots to make sure it works. Don't forget autofocus tracking! That's a biggie. JK :D
Congrats Sean. Someday I hope to do the same.
Well done Sean
I Touched It!! ... (that's what she said?)
I suppose it's the closest i'm getting for now, I can't afford that lovely beast of a thing.
I kins of feel compelled to advertise, seeing as the guy was so nice. I caught the train to Sydney Town Hall, got lost in a maze getting out, saw a JB Hifi (that's as good a direcions as you're getting, I'm sure a local could find it), randomly thought i'd check to see if they had stock, and they did.
Then even more randomly just jokingly asked if i could play with it, no only did he let me, he asked what lens I wanted to use "the 16-35, or the 70-200?". First I stuck on my Samyang 35, then after realsising I didn't have any FF primes (samyang 35, FL 55/1.2, EFs 15-85 is travelling as light as I can think of), he just shoved the 70-200 f/2.8 L IS II on it.
Focusing = Wow. I'm saying better than 7D, with all my familiarity and practice with it, 5D3 beats it straight out of the box (actually, no idea what AF mode it was set on). Surely the 70-200L helped things a bit, that focusses fast too.
But yeah, user interface, very nice, I only had a few minutes to play with it (I felt bad wasting his time when I wasn't going to buy it), but I stuck it in raw+jpg and snapped a few frames very easily. Menus are very 7Desque, just a bit graphically nicer.
Anyway, I'm on my work laptop until saturday so no uploading samples for now (although, maybe I could download DPP from somewhere and/or at least get the jpgs off the camera tomorrow night).
In short, that visa card in my pocket may not survive until next week, it may have to be sacrificed for the good of me saving money for a house, i'm very tempted to go back (although for $4200, i'd get in less trouble buying online...)
Three? I thought there had been only one so far.
You ordered nine hours after the announcement and still don't have it? Yikes. I didn't order until the Tuesday after it was announced. (I moved that weekend and had no internet for a few days and so missed the announcement until then... of all the luck....)
I might as well forget about the 5DIII and just hope to get in line early for the 5DIV.
I can't believe there are already used and refurbs listed on Amazon! One used one is listed at $4500!
I just got off the phone with B&H. They mentioned sending out a shipment early next week, but remained quite tight lipped about how many cameras they are getting and how many they have shipped out already.
I don't have the luxury of a local shop here.
If I am not in the next shipment, I may have to cancel and go with someone else, or get the kit and sell the lens. Maybe at a loss. Maybe at a gain.
Who knows. Just sick of waiting.
A local photographer picked up their 5DmkIII last week (they love it), and it looks like we'll be picking up their old 7D. No more dogs with blurry heads and sharp tails, I hope.
Me, I'm holding off. After the Tether Tools contest I won I'm feeling lucky. (Foolish?) A local chain is hosting a giveaway. I think they just did one for the d800 as well. If my friends on Facebook use my link to enter it gives me more entries.
I figure my odds are one in a few thousand. Here's hoping!
Good luck Rocco!
My co-worker pre-ordered the body only, 4 days after BH started taking orders. On the release day, she found out that she wouldn't get hers until May however they had plenty of the kits instock. I told her that I want the 24-105 lens and that I'd give her $800 for it so she went aheard and ordered the kit; she's had it since Monday.
If you can find someone who needs or wants that lens I would go that route.
Nice, congrats James!
PS: pretty nasty(for some among us), but good marketing tactics from Canon there:rolleyes:
I am not so sure that is good marketing myself. When running a business I have never considered it good practice to anger potential customers and would never go out of my way to send repeat business from existing customers to my competition. How many advertising dollars does it take to bring in new customers to replace those who give up on a brand?
Talking to the Canon Australia rep, he mentioned that Canon is flat out and focusing on 5DMK3 construction, that is their priority, other stuff like battery grips, not a priority. I don't know what comes out of what factory over there, but his words not mine.
But the MK3 will be worth the wait.
Sweet Jesus it says it shipped!!!!
YAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY
I think I could hear you screaming from here, Dave.
Congrats.
Congrats Dave
Says it should get here tomorrow.
Too bad I am on call until 10PM..... going to be a long day. Even longer day if I can't get someone to hang out at my house and accept the package.
So...excited.
Well, I ordered the kit from buydig and canceled my BH order. They have free overnight shipping, so I should get it tomorrow.
I should be able to sell the lens for $800.
Feels like cheating, but hey... I'm going on a trip starting Sunday and I'll have the 5DIII!
As Dave said, YAAAAAAAYYYYYYYY!
BIG Surprise today!!! Never got an email from B&H but after Dave said his shipped I checked out my order and it had a tracking number!!! I was kind of annoyed that I didn't get an email so that I could properly prepare but when I rushed home and since I hadn't missed the UPS guy yet, I got over it. Minutes ago he did come with two boxes: Diapers for my daughter and my 5D Mark III!!!!!

Steve, where did you order from and have you actually got it yet?
I've now seen two seperate places with 5D3 in stock, JBHifi in something attached to the 'TownHall' train station in central Sydney (the guy said "yeah, we've sold 2 or 3"), and a pokey little 1-hour photo place with a bit of token gear, in a Westfield shopping centre in Chatswood, suburban North Sydney.
If you're still waiting on things, there's something wrong with their supply chain.
@ Doc, no I've got mine and couldn't be happier.
I think the 1st pics will be of one of my Mark II's as I post it for sale :-)
Congrats Mark looking forward to your thoughts on the camera.
Awesome, Mark! Congrats!
I received my mk3 two days ago from the Canon direct store. I've heard people still saying there's haven't shipped asf of yet. I upgraded to the mk3 from a 60D, the difference is astonishing. Cheers!
