Good ideas rocco
These are really, really nice Rocco! Composition, lighting ...all of it! Looks like you have this mastered!
Rocco - loving the new setup, superb shots mate.
We're well and truly into our world tour now, currently in New York before heading across to France. Had a couple of sneaky beers today and a brilliant little pub called McSorley's Old Ale House. This is Pepe and he pretty much epitomises New York for me, really lovely guy and he was nice enough to allow me to take his photo before we left the pub. Anyway, click the photo and read the flickr description for a bit more info.
Lighting is natural from the front window of the pub, it has been an overcast day so the light was nice and soft. I'm really enjoying the 35L, such a versatile little lens.
Take care everyone.

Nice to hear from you again, Ben! Great shot ...nice composition and tones! Really captures the overall atmosphere of the joint!
I did two processing on this shot of my son and grandson, one with blue and another with a brownish warm toned background. I think I prefer the blue ...

Awesome bar shot Ben.
I did check out your other image Denise, and I think you chose the right one. The skintones just blend right into the background on the other one.
Here's one of Bella enjoying a walk on our first warmish day of the year.

Great shots everyone! Looks like spring is coming your way David:)
Wow I just love this thread. Everything here is way out of my league, but I really enjoying seeing what creative people can accomplish.
I really like that shot Rocco! Looks like just one light used, is that right? Was there a reflector or anything else used for fill?
Stephen
Lol. Feel like I'm hijacking this thread. Last one for a while!

Thanks Denise and David! It was such a fun shot to get. Ended with a hangover though which was less favourable.
So the other day I saw this awesome B&W portrait by the celebrity photographer, Greg Gorman. It looked so simple I just had to try something like it. I added my own little flare to it and came up with this:

Here is one I took of my son for his 2nd birthday. Right now he is big into trains so my wife dressed him up like a train conductor.

6D; 50mm, f/3.2, 1/1250, ISO 100.
I do not usually comment on portrats because what do I know other than what I like:confused:, but that is a cute picture. And I like that you did not remove the scratch between his eyes... it gives him the tough little boy look.
Love that shot Patrick, handsome young bloke, great portrait.
Thought I would share this one, I don't often see dimples like this.

Steve, Are you using an off-camera flash or bouncing the light off something?
Hollywood starlets seem attracted to you.... Or is it the camera?
Thanks! His mom and me went back and forth on to remove it or not. We ended up deciding to leave it alone because its part of his character and it will probably be there for a while since it took sutures to close up.
Thanks! To our shock he liked the bow-tie and didn't want to take it off when we were done. I fully expected him to rip it off as soon as he could.
I used the softboxes that I had asked about in a thread that I created, (Impact 6 CFL octagon softbox).

Nice shots James, congrats, really like the colours and the original composition of the middle one.
More of the same from me.

My first time in a studio using flash lights. The assignment was lowkey and highkey portret photos.
Personally I like the results. I love taking pictures of the beauty of a woman without mutch attributes.
Let me know what you think, I can handle critisism:)

@Marco
I like the shots. Studio lighting can be a lot of fun to work with.
For the lowkey shot I may have added a reflector on the far side to add a little of light to fill in the shadow across the face. Wouldn't be much but just enough to lighten up the eye and cheek bone a bit.
Here is one from a shoot I did last weekend. The Marine is getting shipped off to Afghanistan next month for his first tour of duty. They haven't actually had a wedding ceremony yet but they did get married at the court house. They plan to do that when he gets back.
This was shot with 6D, 1/100 sec, f/8, ISO 250 at 84mm on the 70-200 f/4. A 600EX-RT was camera left in an umbrella controlled via the ST-E3-RT on manual mode. I want to say it was 1/2 power but I don't remember exactly.

First try at newborn portraits, and what better subject than our new baby? :D
This is Sulien, born April 25th, 2013. He was 6 lbs 12 oz and 19.5" at birth...hard to believe he's already two weeks old! His first portrait shoot (of many) was on Tuesday, in an owl-patterned sleep sack and hat that my wife knitted.

Wow, off this site for awhile and you can sure miss a lot! Sure glad I stopped by this morning and saw this post! Congratulations John to you and your family! He is adorable and the girls must be so excited to have a baby brother! This portrait is perfect and your wife did a fantastic job on the knitting of his little hat and sleep sack!
Congratulations John!
A beautiful addition to the family
