Hi Jayson- Nice. The composition is great and the colors are very vivid, but not overdone (IMO, that is... tastes vary).


The 100mm macro is quite a versatile lens... it isn't just for macros.

Brilliant shot. Maybe a bit more saturation, but comp is dead on.

Dave, I really like the reaction of the monkey in the last image,one looksso serious, the other looks dissapointed, were you doing something that they didn't approve of ? [:)] j/k! I think you can enhance the image by sharpening it, looks like the softness is due to resizing.

I took a walk at Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve and found this heron hunting smelts

This is fullframe. The larger version came straight out of the camera, I onlyresized, sharpened and added a border. For this one, I felt that the bg is too blue so I desaturated the bg. I also blended the black area in the ULC.

Spent yesterday afternoon trying to photograph Little Grebesat a pond in a local park. They are very elusive and seem to dive underwater as soon as you focus on them! They pop up silently somewhere else and are very difficult to spot. These are my best 2 efforts below - critique please. I think the lillies in the foreground ruin shot 2 and I'm not over the moon with the composition of shot 1.I think I'll be back pondside as soon as the rain clears!

I would try to brighten up the butterfly a bit, looks like the camera metered the flower on the right.


Hummer looks good, I like it.

Thanks Nate....glad you enjoyed the HB. We're finally getting some sunshine here and I was able to capture him w/a lower ISO, higher aperture and shutter speed. ISO 320, f/8, and 1/200th.


Got a chuckle w/your comment about the butterfly....I was spot metered on her and thought she was a bit washed out, so I darkened her up a bit in PP.
