Jayson - All of them are beautiful shots (including that lake above). Everything is well exposed, even with all that snow around. I really like the red barn, but the lesson in DOF with the barbed wire fence is just cool. What lens are you using for these?
From the Macro thread:
A blizzard is pretty much a lot of snow blowing sideways and you can not see much of anything. The real beauty of a blizzard is right after it is done and everything is white and clean and there are new snow formations (a.k.a., snow drifts) all over the place.
Not much snow this year, but it was snowing pretty good today and was blowing quite heavily. Not really considered a blizzard, but here are a few shots with a 100-400mm L. I kind of like the first one with the blowing snow it came out looking more like a painting. Then it kept getting worse out so I took a couple shot on the way back to the car. Not great pictures, but you can get the idea.

Those shots are fantastic Pat, was it cold?;) Love the leading lines on the lighthouse.
And Jason great series of shots, love the barb wire and the barn and the B&W.
Great shots Pat.
Thanks Pat and Steve. It was a very lovely morning after, but too damn cold out now. Pat, I believe you have shown pretty well what a blizzard looks like and subject matter with the lighthouse was great. Central Nebraska gets nailed like that all the time and I hate driving in the stuff.
Pat, the lake with rocks and the first shot of trees were taken with a 7D, Tokina 12-24mm f/4 lens. The last two was the 7D with Canon 24-70mm lens. I had a B&W Polarizer on the shots with the rocks hence the off colored sky on the left side. I couldn't think of any other way to remove the reflections of the water. The set of the photos with the barn and trees were all HDR from 2 to 3 exposures. I believe they were set at -2, 0, +2. My post a couple pages back with the sunset was with the Tokina also and I used a HiTech 3 stop hard grad for the sky.
Wow, Pat! Looks like you got hit with the storm we had yesterday! Beautiful shots ...if the pattern continues, be prepared for below zero temps tomorrow!
@Jayson - Beautiful shot with the barn ...it makes me want to do more landscape shots!

Thank you all.
Not to bad, but the wind would bite a little. It was 14°F to 18°F (-8°C to -10°C).
Denise - Your on the wrong side of the lake. :p By the time the below zero air blows accross the lake, it gets warmed up by the water  (or cooled down in the summer)
Kombi - Nice shots. In the first one I like how everything seems to converge (even the mountains do).
@Kombi- Isn't it rare to find a fellow Canadian eh? Nice pics of the national park, wish I can visit sometime soon.
Nice pics, Kombi. I've seen that first pic numerous times from other photographers. Must be a good picture taking spot there, like the classic Yosemite pics. Although the water level of the lake looks down quite a bit from what I've seen in other pics.
You might want to straighten the horizon on the Grand Canyon pic. It's a great image, but the tilt in the image is distracting.
Thank you, it's a bit of a hike to that point, rather remote by foot, but by boat would be easy to get to. Now that I think about it there was a boat launch where we parked. Might rent a canoe this summer and try the area again. With DSLR instead of point and shoot.
Agree on the tilt- would have expexcted these to be the common shots (on walking path North rim)

Nice shots of SBD, Pat. We were up there this past summer. It was considerably warmer. :D
It's really striking how high up off the water you are when you stand at the top of the dunes. I can see why they discourage people from sand-skiing down to the water. It's a tough climb coming back up.

Mark - Now that is a total different perspective. Great water color. Walking up those dunes is tough... more energy is disipated moving sand with every step than gets used moving your body up the hill. :p
The day we were there it was painful to stand out in the sun. You get amazing temperature extremes in MI sometimes. I'd love to go back there when it's possible to spend an hour or so at a site to take my time with images. It was just too hot that day.
Another lighthouse on Lake Michigan from back in January. I posted a simular one earlier, but I think I like this one better.

Jayson - I am loving the winter shots. I think my favorite is the willow.
Just getting around to processing shots from summer and fall 2011. Here are a couple from this past fall.

Thanks for viewing my 1000th post to this forum. I love contributing and I love reading and viewing all your posts and I treasure the friendships that have been made via this creative and encouraging forum.
Cool shots Steve! I like and appreciate your input to the forum, so please continue ;)
@Jason, very nice icy tree shots. Now that's what winter should look like! Really nice!
Beautiful shots, Steve! From full color to b&w, your photos are always amazing!
Thanks Steve and Jan.
@ Jan, I rarely does that around here, maybe once a winter. The fog gets very heavy and then it freezes to the trees. Winter has been far to mild here this year and there haven't been may opportunities to get the snow shots. Glad you like.
@ Steve, that first shot with the rays of the setting sun is post card material! Great capture!
I like it a lot Jayson. Winter has been very mild here as well. Unfortunately we don't really get snow at all. At most 4" in a good winter:o I just like the colors of winter. All white with beautiful fresh blue skies is the best there is :D
I took this shot a week ago. It was supposed to be cloud-free, but when I arrived to take some photos clouds appeared and I found out that the connector of my wired release was broken:( (also didn't know it that you can use the Bulb-mode with a wireless remote) There was a little town nearby and the street-lights reflected to the mild clouds:

I like the bleak feel to that top one Pat, nice composition and movement.

Love the tones in that shot Jan, did you light the windmill yourself?
A panorama of the night cityscape of Hong Kong that I took during my stay there...I call it 'This Misty City' ;)

Jan, I am really liking that windmill shot. Great idea to include that in the picture!
