Very good.
Agreed William, good work Denise.

Finally got around to editing some older pictures. I wasn't impressed with this image when I took it last summer, but I played with it a bit and converted it to black and white and thought the result was worth sharing.

I just so happen to be doing lots of b&w photos recently. Almost at 50% b&w. Glad I found this thread... lots of inspiration to keep going with b&w.
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6186/...3410cc02_z.jpg
For the first few years of photography, I held the view that there is no point to b&w white as there is always so much color to play with. I only took maybe a handful of b&w photos over 2 years. I took more pictures intended to be converted to black and white over the past month than I would have in 5 years at the pace I was going. I'm starting to even think color can be a little tacky with some shots.
One major thing that I have realized to be a vital tool to capturing high dynamic images, with least distraction; a lens that has excellent flare control. Nobody has ever told me how important flare control can be.

(though it can make a shot better)
Great shot of the pooch Nick.
Here is one of St John's cathedral in brisbane.

Very crisp shot Steve.
Here's my latest B&W creation, taken today just before a storm came through.

Not sure if these are among my better b&w shots, but they are more recent. Here are a couple from a trip to Poland. First one is from a park in Warsaw.

Thanks OJ, I like the light in this cloud shot and your submission in the assignment.
@ bgood, the location of the second shot adds poignant relavancy to the treatment of that B&W shot, good work.
All these latest shots are wonderful! Each one is done so differently but yet they are perfect for the scene they depict!
Tomorrow, I will have Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 and I just hope I can learn to use it appropriately & produce b&w photos as beautiful as all of you!
Black and White are back in Fashion.... All the shots by all guys are truly well executed. There

Nice capture
Great Collection
All of these are really beautiful!
Nice, don't think of butterflies in BW but it presents itself well.
Not sure I'm happy with this. Reworked it a couple of time to try and get the right presentation. Any feedback or recommendations are appreciated.
Ultimately, I'll probably re-shoot it under different ambient light and from a slightly different angle. Thanks for looking.

Sorry Don, I'm definitely not one to give advice on this whole B&W & limited color thing since I am still in the very early learning stages myself. the angle of the photo is good IMO but I'm not overly fond of the color of it but not quire sure how I would change it either.
Heck I can't figure out if I even like the two I just worked on ...

Hey Don,
Your pic looks to be lacking contrast a bit. Darks need to be darker, highlights lighter. That'll give it more pop. Took the liberty of saving the image to try and illustrate what I'm talking about.

This of course is completely subjective. Just my humble opinion. May not have been what you were going for at all. I did this on my laptop and I'm sure that when I get to work tomorrow and take a look at it, my version will be too dark. Sigh... Tax returns can't come soon enough. Looks decent from where I'm sitting right now though! Promise! heh.
Thanks for the sample. Contrast may be part of it, but as I've let this stew for awhile the color is all wrong for an late 1800's photograph. It should be more silvery. Albuem processing which would be correct for the period has this hue, albeit much less saturated. (faded)Quote:

Agreed great work on the big cats, Denise.
Nice series Wally, like the first one how the eye is drawn into the picture, it makes you wonder what is around the corner.
I took this is an ancient water city in eastern China.

Very cool shot, Alex and I like the b&w on this alot!

Wow...these pixs are very nice.
Thanks ...I love the challenge of trying different b&w techniques! Many b&w photos here and on flickr, I am blown away by the creativity others display. For me, I am still a far cry away from that WOW factor, but I'm going to continue to plug away at it!
I've been practicing on a lot of old photos I took last year to see what I could have done differently.

WoW
Thanks, Wally! My daughter keeps asking me why do you keep doing everything in b&w ....all I tell her is because it is so much fun!

On this one, it was the only angle to take when my son is 6'2" & I'm shooting with a prime and no time to back up!
