I hadn't seen them in my yard for about a week so I was so happy to see they were back! Now if my hb would only return!! I think I scared it away for good with my better beamer!

These are all wonderful! I like the profile and focal point of the beak in the 1st shot. I also like the composition of the 3rd shot and they

Thank you so very much!! I really appreciate all the education I have gotten from you guys to lead me to be able to get shots like these!!

This is the best I've been able to get of these two together so far this spring hopefully I will nail a better one in time ...

I removed a bird in post that was right behind her and am not real thrilled with the results. I thought of removing the grass in front of her but I knew I would only make matters worse!

There are usually ducks and geese everywhere but this is what I saw today.

I was checking out a GBH rookery and Osprey nest this afternoon and this guy showed up:

7D, 100-400L @ 400 mm, 1/1000, f/8, ISO 200

I guess I do mean to pry, but in a good way....Are you getting very close to the birds? Shooting with a tripod?? All of your recent photos have had great detail.[Y]

Well, at least at this resolution. I have looked at the larger versions on flickr and they are sometimes not as sharp as the 800 px images suggest.

Some of my images are quite soft that I have posted and you would never guess!

Thanks! I have been doing a few things differently. I have been able to get somewhat closer to the birds now, also using the tripod more lately now that the 10 ft. ofsnow is goneand using more than just DPP for post-processing. I've been using DxO Optics Pro 6 more and learning a few things in photoshop and lightroom.

I've been away for a few days, on a fishing trip with my brother-in-law in South Carolina. Nice shots everyone!

Could not leave my photo gear at home and I was pleasantly surprised to find several Osprey nests in small cypress trees pretty much at eye level from the boat. My host was kind enough to take some time for me to take some shots so here's one to start with......

I will get my ( second hand ) Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L USM Lens coming Saturday, so I am eager to try this lens out on our local zoo.

<p sizset="39" sizcache="6"]Ithink this Crane photo is very nice, it looks like it has lots of detail and sharpness....it would really pop if you reduce noise in thre background then just bump the brightness and contrast a little and also remove the out of focus stem of grass that intersects the bird's bill.

Denise, I took a crack at it to see if what I told you was OK, I used shadows/highlights to bring out some detail in the blacks, also there were some blown out whites on top of the head that I could not completely recover, I then did a levels adjustment and a brightness adjustment. I cloned out the grass stem and ran Topaz Denoise on the whole image....

Hey Joel, when you say "..... to start with", I knew you have some better stuff coming!

the size of the fish looks pretty good to me, i used to go fishing every weekend......., great bird pictures and good sized fish, man! this was like ....heaven......, wish i can attend your "workshop" someday.... keep the good stuff coming!

ps, was that a stripped bass,BTW?

Here is one I got yesterday, this is probably the best lit bird shot I have to date. It was overcast with the flash set to 1/16 power with the better beamer.

I'm not sure what kind it is, House Wren?

House wrens lack that prominent white eyebrow this bird has. Its a Bewick's Wren.

John - good to see you're giving that saturation slider a work out again [:D] That's a great shot mate, well done.

Joel - those shots are wonderful.

Here's one from me - another wren I think.

I know it's often nice to crop out branches etc to get rid of distractions but I think it gives the shot some context in this case so I didn't bother.

5D II, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS @ ISO 1000, f/2.8, 200mm, 1/160 sec.
