Thanks for viewing.
Teve,
Nice depth. Looks great:cool:
Steve - I always like your city-scapes... they are always so sharp and detailed. Great shot. Nice clouds.
Thanks for all the comments guys! I had a lot of fun reading them, but I felt a little bit more guilty with each of them as well. The Ozzie touch in the photo is actually done by Wally. He liked the true Dutch look of the original one and I said that it only missed the traditional Dutch windmill. A few hours later the windmill was in place haha:DThanks Wally! Still have to search for a nice stand-alone windmill to make a genuine shot once:o
@Franco, nice panorama of Hong Kong. It has nice color tones in it.
@Steve, the boat really makes the shot in my opinion. B+W works great as well!
Great image, Steve. Super crisp and has a sweet 3D feel to it. Nicely done.
Very cool windmill, Jan/Wally. Oozing with atmosphere. Primo PP work.
I'm on a driving tour of the west coast, enjoying some photo opportunities that are a lot different than back home. This is a 3-shot HDR of the sunset from Bandon, Oregon. The lava rock formations are quite amazing and I could come back here day after day and not get tired of the different opportunities.

Another nice shot Jonathan. I hope you enjoy the warm weather:cool: on your driving tour. Thanks for taking us along by sharing your landscapes.:)
Thank you all for the comments.
Great shot Jonathan, I'm also looking forward to your travel log.
Thanks Mark, it was about 2:00pm, CP filter, glarey and cloudy, the river was a muddy brown, so it had to be black and white, with some contrast and exposure adjustment.
Rocco - Nice shot ...I love the tones!
Steve - Beautiful b&w shot of Brisbane city and the compostion is perfect! I could see this one hanging on a wall with a few of your other b&w's!!
Thanks Denise.
Great image Rocco, I to like the vintage tones and just the right amount of HDR and great framing with the wagon.
Rocco:
I like the landscape... interesting background.
But I am confused by the shadows:confused:. It looks like the cart shadow is going away from the camera, the snow drift shadow is coming towards the camera, and there are others going across the frame.
Thanks:)
No HDR or change in tone applied. :D The wagon was lit with a 580exII and a 430exII. It was a 30 sec exposure, f/8, ISO1600. Used cloudy white balance; that with the light pollution made for the post apocalyptic feel I was going for.

Great control of your environment and settings Rocco.
Here is one from yesterday arvo.

Another day above 80F. So bizarre for this time of year. I was reading that Traverse City, MI hit 81F yesterday, which is 42 degrees above normal. It's already quite hazy here, as this image from this morning's commute shows.

Way back at the beginning of this thread, I said that I hoped to be a regular contributor of landscape shots. I overlooked that fact that it was then the start of winter and there would not be much daylight or good weather until March. Well, March has arrived and the sun is soon going to be spending more time above the horizon than below, so I have no more excuses. Today's objective was to climb up this hill:

5D Mark II, EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM @ 155mm, 1/160s, f/8, ISO 200
It was worth it for the view, but I am suffering from the effects of a sedentary wintertime.

Beautiful scene Andy, but I think I can see the shadow of the helicopter that got you to the top.:)
I wish. Actually, my home town has the world's busiest heliport (two helicopter terminals and just one for planes) but they only fly out to the oil rigs and I'm not allowed in one unless I'm dressed in a bright orange offshore survival suit with three layers of clothing underneath.
The last time I flew in a helicopter for leisure was in the Antarctic. We used them to get from the icebreaker to a drop-off point near the penguin colony. Have I told you about that trip yet?

Helicopter Above Frozen Weddell Sea by Andrew Stringer, on Flickr
Driving north through California, we passed through Mt. Shasta City and stayed a couple of nights. The first day was pouring rain, coming down so hard the animals were beginning to line up in pairs. The forecast called for continual gloom and despair for the days ahead. So I didn't make any plans to photograph the mountain... in fact I didn't even expect I would get to see it at all. But the next morning, we awoke to clear skies. Unbelievable. I grabbed the iPad and frantically searched for a good location to get a shot. This lake was a 10 minute drive away... bingo. The sun was at right angles so the polarizer worked very well. That and a 2-stop soft edge ND grad, and a 2-shot HDR did the trick. Just ten minutes after this photo, we were stunned to see the clouds come right back and wrap the mountain in a thick blanket. I have to say, we were very lucky indeed.

Stunning shot, Jonathan. A bit of luck, a lot of hustle, and the right equipment all paid off.
Beautiful shot Jonathan, impressive peak, perfect reflection.
Another beauty Jonathan.
Fantastic picture Jonathan! That picture belongs in a calendar.

Thanks very much, everyone, and thanks for always inspiring me through this forum with your own wonderful examples. It's a great feeling when you are standing in front of a perfect scene, and all the stars are aligned for the shot. I was so giddy, I could barely contain myself. It's gifts like this that keep me hooked on the sport.
We passed through Vancouver on our way home from the big road trip, and I couldn't help but take advantage of my last chance for another ocean sunset shot. This is Siwash Rock, at Stanley Park.

Nice shot, Jonathan. Two great silhouettes in that shot. Right place, right time.
Nice sunset Jonathan.
I took one yesterday and it was pure gold. But you'll have to take my word for that.
Attachment 727
Thanks everyone --- and Steve, that's definitely pure gold. I'm especially impressed that there is no lens flare in that shot. I struggle a bit with my 24-70 f/2.8 in that regard.
@Steve: Nice shot. I always love it when you get rays of light streaming through the clouds.
This is one of the better (but still not very good ;)) shots of that type that I've taken.

Stephen
Thank you for the comments, that was the 70-200 for that sunset, possibly one of the better lenses for flair.
@Stephen, it's all about luck and timing for sun rays. That shot of mine needed to be cropped a bit and the horizon straightened before it was a passable shot. Your one above, the blown out sun in the corner is distracting and the horizon in the middle of the frame, does not add to the scene.
Here is a bit of a rework of yours, hope you don't mind.

What a lot of great landscapes lately. Jonathan,Steve, Stephen, Kayaker, Andy, M_Six, Franco, Denise, and so many more have shown some real good landscapes to keep this thread going... it makes me want to get out and shoot more. Thank you and keep them coming.
Here is one from today. The peach blossoms are out early this year.

Thanks Steve! I certainly don't mind and totally agree about the blown out area in the corner. That was probably the main thing I didn't like about it; looks a lot better with your crop. Cropping (or better yet, framing) is something I definately need to get better at to improve my shots.
A couple from a walk with my wife this morning.
