Nice one Bob.
Bob...both of those are great pictures...really well done!
Bob and Joel, really nice HB shots! you guys are rock! hope I can learn to shoot this little guy later this year.
a bonus bird shot from my trip to Legoland today, the 135mm2.0 was my only lens.

Thanks JJ, your RWB is cool,
I like the pattern on the top of his back.
The natural perch is a plus too.
Another of my recent HB series. I like this one because I can actually see the eye through the wings.
Same set up with the 1D3, 300mm 2.8L and 4 flashes.

Thats a pretty cool shot Joel
JJ, you did this bird justice, Sharp, clean background, great colors,
Nice shot.
Bob
Wow, JJ! You make me want to shoot birds with my 135mm to see what I can come up with! Beautiful photo!
I know shooting birds on a feeder is a major no-no but I just couldn't resist this one ...

Cute interaction shot Denise....looks just a tad under exposed on my monitor but the sharpness is excellent and the BG is awesome.
Thanks, Joel! And you are right, now that I look at it again. I mostly worked in post on the overexposed feeder and birds wings on the left that were in direct sun but now I see I may have left the bird on the right and the front of the left bird that was in the shade underexposed.
Easy fix, thanks for pointing it out to me!

Joel, That's a great shot, cool bird etc---As usual---Beautiful
I told my wife----it's all your fault---I just ordered my new blind, much like yours---It is your fault[;)]. We are approaching Fall once more and I am hoping to put the blind to work in the Bosque Del Apache this year---I am still looking for my bobcat or mountain lion[:S]---wanna join me?
Bob
Well, a mountain lion sometimes shows up around here once in a while. But it
John, You're probably correct---Should I survive without a helicopter ride to the ER, It would be worth it, just one or two snaps of a big cat in the wild---wow, just wow. Actually, even with baiting, preditor calls etc, your odds of getting a big kitty are pretty remote---They just seem to be smarter than human photogs. Even my hunter friends have to use dogs to even think about getting close to a big cat. I guess it's kind of like bungy jumping or parachuting, its all good until the rope breaks. Guess I'll have to take a calculated risk of the rope breaking.
Wish me luck:)
Bob
P.S. I'll bring an extra pair of underwear just in case a cat actually shows up.

Kayaker, I really like the single bird on the beach it almost looks B&W, is it a Sanderling?
I am still seeing bunches of hummingbirds, had about 10 around the feeder this evening so I put up a quick perch and shot this from the kitchen window with just the on camera 580EXII and no remote flashes. 1D3, 300mm 2.8L, ISO 1250, 1/125 sec, f/6.3

Thanks Joel. I am not sure what type of bird that is, but it does look like a sanderling.
I love the HB shot. The color coming off the throat is excellent.
A few more from last week:

Joel, Love that Osprey shot and the little cardinal portrait is very nice as well. Have your Hummers flown away yet?
Bob
Thanks Bob, the hummers are still here but it seems a few less this week.
I have a bunch of images from the last couple of sessions, I just need to go through and process the good ones.
Well, here are are few from this weekend and this evening, still having a heck of a time with ghosting and shadowing, but I did manage to reduce it by moving the background closer to the subject. I think I am getting the shadowing from the light bouncing off of the back ground. Anyway, here are a few I am willing to share.

WOW, Bob! You have to be so proud of these photos! They are absolutely stunning!
Second that Bob, sensational.
Some more lorikeets, all that planting tends to create a banquet for these colourful little birds.

Steve
@Steve, those are such cool birds, looks like the gardening is really paying off for you. Great shots.
@Denise, Thanks..but actually I am still having a lot of problems with ghosting. Sometimes I do get lucky and capture one where the ghost isn
Bob,
you are really producing some nice shots, you
Steve - You are so lucky to be able to look outside every day and see these beautiful flowers and birds! The flowers look so delicate and the birds are so colorful ...it would be like seeing a rainbow every day right outside my window!
@Joel. The cocky was just down the river Torrens near my place, maybe 5 minute walk. There's a flock of about 10-20 there at the moment, coming down to feed on the grass seeds on the ground these days. That shot I was lying on my back taking shots of him with my 70-300L, while he was looking down at me with a 'what you doing?' look on his face, before he took off almost straight at me (thankfully the AF kept up).

I got some nice ones today just sitting amongst them with my 180mm f/2.8 zeiss Sonnar, this one was when they all started screeching (presumably because i was getting too close)

@steve, love all the lorikeets. We get the same down in adelaide, but i can never get close enough, and/or there's branches in the way of all my shots, so well done on them.
and @bob. pretty much all I can say is wow. I can't see any ghosting there, got an example of ones that have them in? (or are you just being too perfectionist like the rest of us?)
Bob, these are really beautiful HB shots. only the BG looks a little too busy and bright for me that seems make the subject a bit less stand out. but just my 2 cents and again , they are great great shots!
Steve, very colorful bird and trees, nice shots!, just the light look a little too hard, i

@ Joel, Another nice HB shot. The lighting is very clean and well balanced on this one---I like it.
@ All--Thanks for your suggestions and comments on my previous post. I posted a summary and some example shots of my ghosting problems on its own string ( Technical Problems--Advice or Suggestions Appreciated )---just in case there are some non-birders that might be willing to comment. Please feel free to evaluate and offer suggestions.
Thanks,
Bob
Bob and Steve
Your pixs are stunning well done
Wally
JJ, Bob, Wally, Denise, Dr. thank you all for the comments, it really keeps the fire burning.
This is a young Red Bellied Woodpecker that has been visiting my setup recently.
It was a gloomy day so I used the on camera flash with the better beamer and two remote flashes off to each side about 45 degrees and set them to 1/16 power just for fill light.

I think my next project is creating some more natural looking perches for my backyard birds.
