Great colors Larry
Going through some photos from my latest New Orleans trip. Nothing special...just the typical tourist stuff (first two with the 40mm pancake):

Nice shots. That pancake lens continues to impress.
I'm drinking Cafe Du Monde coffee right now. Wish I had a beignet to go with it.
Yeah, the pancake is a pretty fun little lens for a couple hundred bucks. A slight slide of the saturation bar and the colors just jump from that lens...just like with my L lenses. I go to New Orleans 3-4 times a year so I don't really photograph much there anymore. The pancake is perfect for just walking around the city.
I will say though, the pancake draws more attention than any other lens I've ever owned. When you are walking around with a white lens, I think people just assume you are a pro and don't talk to you. When you have the pancake on the camera, everybody with a dslr talks to you...especially when you have a 77mm polarizer attached to the lens via a step-up ring (I didn't see the point of buying new filters just for the pancake). It's pretty funny looking.
Did some shots for friends at the playground today

Great series I like the tree trunk portraits. And it wouldn't be a good time for Dad to sneeze while super baby is learning to fly.

Wonderful series of shots, Mark! The flying baby one has me holding my breath!! Did the little boy crawl up there holding the baby and then let her go!? Frightening but fantastic action shot!
Here are a couple more of my favorites. Again, these are resaved jpegs after adding the logo and resizing so I don't know how good they will look here ...

I love them all so far
you are a natural:o
Great shots Denise, they look wonderful!
I especially like the 2nd one.
On the 3rd shot, I would straighten out the water/horizon a little bit.
Thanks, Richard! It's too late to change anything now that they have been viewed by the b&g unless they request it or I let them know I'm going to change things after they have already viewed them. But yes, I guess my creativity was a little much and I shouldn't have tilted the photos. Sad thing is, I did it to a number of them! :( I should have left well enough alone! I wanted to post in a seperate thread for opinions before letting them view them, but that didn't seem right.
After I posted this, I went to popphoto.com to read articles. Here's one on their front page ...
How To: Add Life to Portraits
Photographer Francesca Sara Cauli shares some ways to make fun people pix
"Photographer Francesca Sara Cauli of Bologna, Italy, says that it’s easy to make fun, upbeat portraits: Just hang out with fun, upbeat people. We know that’s not always possible. Luckily, her por-trait of Alma Gitanna here exemplifies other techniques for energizing your people pictures. Here are a few:
- By Peter Kolonia on October 9, 2012
• Tilt the camera to throw the horizon line off-kilter. This can add a serendipitous kick."
I don't feel quite so retarded now but maybe I went a tad too far!
Sure, I agree with the intentional tilting concept. However, it also has to do with the subject matter as well as the context of the pose (like a playful wedding pose).
As long as they like it that's all that really matters, however I don't think they would ever notice that, that's why I would point it out to them. Otherwise, it may look funny in a frame like that, and you could fix it in less than a minute if need be.
I'll also add that be careful not to cut off the bottom of the dress of you correct the horizon, as I'm not sure how much room you had before cropping.
Since I am an engineer/part time photographer, the engineer in me tends to shoot everything square and symmetrical. My wife has been pushing me out of my box, to tilt the camera on some shots. She and I both feel this shot of yours is great. I usually do poses like this where I do a shot or two square & symmetrical and a shot or two tilted. The B&G will pick the ones they like and often one like this is what they pick. :o
Thanks, Mark (& your wife)! I did look back at the RAW's and this is the only shot on the lake that I tilted the original but I did 4 different pp choices, straight not being one of them. I can straighten it some in post without cutting off the dress or his head but then it looks like an unintentional goof!
I totally agree with the previous comments, these are terrific shots Denise. I am sure the B&G will think these are fantastic. You have well and truely met your brief anf supplied them with quality photos of their special day.
I hope they realise what a bargain they got by giving you your first paying gig. You do seem to have a knack for this and it will get easier on you.
Great work.
If you want a reaction, get the photos to the MOTHERS. Wow.
Btw. I really like the four I've seen posted.
Very Nice Work Denise, I really like the first and second shot---As for the third, I keep looking at it trying to decide if I agree with Richard or not, I see merit on both sides of the discussion. Ultimately, it depends on what you like and if the couple like it.
Nice Job, I can't wait to see more of this kind of work from you.
Bob
Thanks guys!! Just let me know when you tire of seeing them!!

I'll do a "as for the third" comment as well. Firstly, it is a beautiful shot, if I was to suggest anything maybe you didn't go "far enough" with your horizon tilt. Perhaps a half body crop and a more wicked tilt to increase the "interest" and also to decrease the visual presence of the actual horizon line.
Mmmm, thoughts....
I think you nailed it on that thought, Steve! But for now I think I am going to back away from all of them as far as changing them until I hear from them. I just made a change on another one and noticed after uploading it to my website that I created some issues that weren't there to begin with!
Remember, these are only the better ones ...there is MUCH worse than this, believe me!
Heheh you fool:rolleyes:, you creative types are so hard on yourselves. They are going to love them.
They would have had to spend at $2000 more to get as good as what you will have provided them.
My guess is that more jobs are going to flow from this project.
Denise....seriously, you can start charging more....
The house we stayed at for our Arizona wedding happened to have a bush in the back yard. My wife came running in one the first morning and said that she saw hummingbirds at the bush (I think it is a honeysuckle)....anyway, turns out I have to fly across the country, but I got a few hummingbird shots:

Brant, those shots are magnificent!! Love the colors!
Brant - You did great job with those Hummers. I did not see any this year, and it was the first time I put out feeders.
Denise - So far, from what I have seen, you have done a wonderful job with this wedding.
Brant, I really like those HBs.
Denise, I couldn't agree more. The rings with the flowers look great, very artistic and Denise-style.
Great job on the wedding Denise - looks like your worrying was completely unnecessary as it looks like you've done really well!
Speaking of weddings, we have finally arrived back from ours. Had an absolute ball, a perfect day all round. I will put up a few pics from our photographer once they come through, he did an excellent job. You can see a preview shot here --> http://www.timharrisphotographyblog....omet-brisbane/
I took this shot the night before from our apartment in Brisbane. The view was absolutely outstanding! This was my first chance to have a decent play with the new Samyang 14mm f/2.8. So far it has proven to be an excellent lens. It's a lot of fun to use.
Enjoy, Ben.

Brisbane City Lights from 70 Stories by Ben__Taylor, on Flickr
Congrats Ben! Beautiful couple you are.
The shot rocks, too.
Thanks everyone...glad you like the shots. I was pretty happy getting to spend a few minutes each day in the backyard waiting on the HB.
Ben...simply....stunning.....shot.
Ben, that's the type of photo that could make its rounds as an official city image. If you get that in the right hands, it could gain momentum very quickly.
Btaylor- Excellent shot!
Here's a couple of mine:
I'm not sure what flickr did in the bottom right, the actual file does not have that odd coloration:

I was playing around in Photoshop with this one, I'm planning on buying a frame and matting these photos similar. If I or someone else can come up with a good layout for these on canvas I may do that as well:

James, all of those shots are jaw-dropping fantastic!! Wow! You could make a great deal of $ selling copies of just those four shots alone!
Very nice shots Ben and James.
