Nice image Bob, looks like you're right about the image width. Also I wonder why everyone's Join Date is the same?

Little Owl on the fence by Jan Paalman, on Flickr
This is a 640p test
I'll try a 700-pixel-wide shot. Don't think I ever got to telling the story of my day with very bizarre cockatoos' behaviour, now that I think of it...

edit, wow, that didn't work. Try with another.

Nope, 700-wide makes it weird. I'll do another size (you can see all the sizes in my image filenames, makes it easier for me to organise them).

Hmmm, is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? I'm uploading them all, not external-hosting (maybe that's a hint that I need to get myself a smugmug?)
Great Egret test upload
Sweet photo, Joel!
With nothing but time on my hands, I'm still going through photos from the last few months or so! Glad to see there is no time limit on this thread!

Hey, good lookin'! by Denise Trocio, on Flickr
Wow Denise! Is that a Whooping crane? The pose and reflection are killer.
Another recent image getting accustomed to the 500 f/4 hand holding, this time with the 1.4 TC
Shot this in the yard this morning using the 1D3 + 500mm f/4 + 1.4 TC using a tripod and Wimberly gimbal head
PS : I've noticed by using the "manage attachments" icon you can submit much larger images.
Joel, Nice shots, how are you liking the 500?
Thanks Bob....so far so good....quite a bit more weight to hand hold than the 300 2.8 but I can do it for short periods. Seems to take even more shutter speed for very sharp images especially with the converter. I have not performed any AF microadjustments, doesn't seem to need it.
(PS Will prob. be making travel arrangements this week)
Yeah, It took some time for me to get used to it as well; even on a tripod, I try and keep it above 500, and usually 1000 if light permits.
Travel Arrangements=:D. I will be heading out there again the week of 21 Nov when the new section opens. I'll keep you posted.
I went to Louisville to visit my daughter over the weekend and managed to steal a couple of hours at a city park that had a small lake. The ducks were accustomed to people so they approached very close. Actually too close for the 500mm in many cases so I was making portrait shots! This is my first Wood Duck encounter.
BTW...I have been working on a trial website at Zenfolio and would love some feedback from forum members. It's a first for me and I am certainly no expert. Here is the link, thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Your photo's on zen do not look as crisp and as clean as your work we were seeing in the old forums. I went back to look at some of your old pics since we migrated and I guess they didn't make the move. I know there was some discussion about zenfolio using lower resolution pictures for reviews, but I do not rember what the outcome of the thread was. At least from my perspective, what I was seeing on Zen has a little less image quality than I was used to seeing in your pics. I know it is not your work, but somthing in either the posting or the way Zen is displaying it.
Don't take these as negative comments, I just don't think Zen is representing your work to its up most.
Rick
Well, I rarely have any bird shots worth posting, and this one is no exception. :P It's a shot that's been done a hundred times before, but it's the best I had from that day.

Finally logged in to the forum, just a test shot.

Hm, why the picture is so small?
Nice image JJ, I like when the image is this small, I Like viewing the larger image with the dark grey background.
You need to host your pictures on an external site such as flickr, then use that site to 'share' the picture on a bulletin board. This will give you the code that you need to paste into your message on this site.Quote:

No problem, Steve. I modified the url by adding "/lightbox" at the end so that when you click the image, it opens the lightbox in flickr, with a dark grey background. Try it.Quote:

I found this old thread, Richard Lane was looking in to Zenfolio
http://community.the-digital-picture...light=zenfolio
Here is a quote from one part of the thread:
"@Rick, I found out that Zenfolio downsizes their viewing images to 1550 x 960 as the max, you could even downsize this quality further. They claim that is done to protect the photographers images, and load the images faster, but now I'll have to explain to people that the images will look better when downloaded or printed. I'm not sure if that feature could be turned off."
This might explain what I am seeing, but maybe some others can give us some insight on Zenfolio.
If you are trying to sell your work Joel, I think for these types of pictures they need to be the highest quality. If Zenfolio is really worried about people stealing the work maybe it should have a watermark. People aren't picking these type of shots for portraits of family, they would be printing for art on the wall.
Good Luck
Rick
Thanks Andy, but where do you paste the code?
At Joel, HD, I'm not sure what the question is here, but let me put my 2cw in anyway. The photos I have posted from Zenfolio have always looked as they should on the forum (good, bad or in between). Zenfolio does limit the "share size" of the images as you mentioned, but this has never been a problem since I normally post 800 wide or now 650 wide on the new forum.
As far as the images looking different between viewing on line and the printed product, I have never noticed a real difference. If anything, the prints look better IMHO---but prints always look better to me than the online or monitor version--I guess that is what you are saying, but I am not sure you need to tell potential customers that---let them be pleasantly surprised.
Anyway, I have been very happy with Zenfolio and the ability to upload from them to the forums.
As far as turning of the feature, I don't think you can, but... you can further limit it to smaller resolutions.
Hope this helps,
You paste the code where you want your photo to appear in the message. The code is just the image address that you posted above with image 'tags' around it, like this:Quote:

Flickr creates this code automatically, along with some other code to hyperlink to the photographer's flickr site when the image is clicked, but I'm not sure about Imageshack.
It should look like this:

Andy, this is what I did for uploading this image
1, click "image" icon,
2, click"from URL"
3, paste the code,
4, click"OK"
5, click "Submit Reply"

what was wrong?
close up and personal with the 500mm....
Wow Denise, I really like that first one. Not sure what it is.. guess I'm not used to seeing texture like that in water. I think it's neat. :)
Around here, we call the green stuff duckweed. In summer and early fall, it can cover the water in marshes and ponds. Ducks swim through it, eat it...geese, too, the one below was looking up from a meal.

Nice shots Denise, I like the pair of Northern Shovelers, good work. The little Downy Woodpeckers are some of my most frequent back yard visitors. I think I could probably hand feed some of them.....sometimes they don't fly away from a feeder until I reach up to refill it!
Nice Goose portrait Neuro.....really sharp and good exposure of blacks and whites, not always easy to pull off.
