My 1st carbon fiber tripod & ballhead were delivered today!
All of you will be happy to hear that I won't be having to ask any more questions about tripods, monopods or ballheads anymore because I finally had mine delivered today! Thanks to all of you for your helpful suggestions.I decided to save a few $$ and not get a Gitzo. Instead I bought an Induro CT213 tripod and BHD2 ballhead.
So far, I could not be more pleased with mydecision! I'm 99% sure I will never own a lens heavier than my 300mm f/4 L lens and this tripod seems to support everything just fine so the max 26.4 lbs doesn't appear to be a problem. I also purchased the short column for macro photography. I've never owned a carbon fiber tripod or a ballhead before so I have nothing to compare them to but for my needs, I couldn't be happier with what I have!
Again, thanks to all for the suggestions!

Glad you are happy with your tripod - I took a serious look at Induro too except I was looking at the Alloys and not the carbon fiber. Post some more pics soon!

Thanks! I of course did not want to buy less than I needed just to save a few bucks but then again I didn't want to buy way more than either. Looks like I have found that happy medium. I will know more this weekend when I give it more of a work out!

Do you have a better beamer? If not, it's just a $40 accessory that attaches to your flash to "beam" it further and diffuse it a bit, only for telephoto lenses. It'd be perfect for the setup you have above, which BTW is looking great [H]

Thanks! Just out of curiousity, could you send me a link to what you are describing above? The attached wide panel only extends it slightly.
All I have is theSto-Fen Omni Bounce diffuser.

Lovely! I just went to my local photography shop a while ago and saw some Induro heads. I might get one if my Manfrotto 488RC2 gets a bit older or something [:P]

A bit OT, but can those snoots used by strobists be used as a beamer?

Thanks! It does seem to be working out pretty good for me . But since I've never used another, I don't know how it compares. Maybe that's a good thing!

Probably not. They're meant for use in bird photography and probably wouldn't give the desired strobist effect. Ask Sean to be sure, though.

I tried an Induro BHD-3 ballhead (top-of-the-line) and my impressions were that it was sturdy, very heavy, and priced OK. Nothing wrong with it at all, it worked fine for me, I don't know how long it lasts, though. Induro uses a closed-ball design, which is extremely hard to clean. I personally am a fan of the open ball design, but it's not too big of a deal. The BHD-3 was better than I thought it would be. Just very heavy, it's 2 pounds!
my 2¢

Hi John (and Brendan),
I was already thinking of hooking up with the Wimberley Macro Flash Bracket& the telephoto setup. Would that be the way to go orin your opinion, is the better beamer somethingI should get for telephoto?
Denise

Re: My 1st carbon fiber tripod & ballhead were delivered today!
Awesome!!! the Wimberley flash bracket will essentially save you from getting the macro twin lite, as the flash bracket serves the same purpose. The better beamer is for lenses 300mm and up ONLY. It's ineffective and not meant for shorter lenses, so maybe get both. The better beamer is meant for outdoor use for stuff like birds.

Absolutely, it's great for extending your flash power. It's used basically usedonly for birding, unless someone else has used it for something else.

It's mainly used for macro, it would work nicely with you 300mm for telephoto marcro work.
