Woodland creatures and birds

For my 101st post, though I would post some of my better outdoor pictures. Someone dropped a big pile of seeds on the ground in the local park and I happened to have the camera with me. Taken with 70-200f4 with 1.4x kenko tc at 280mm, Canon 7D. Let me know what you think...

Great shots Jason. The shot in the middle looks like a postcard.[Y]. Well done. What's your thoughts on the Kenko 1.4. Let me know. Wally

I really like it. I haven't noticed any decrease in sharpness from using that. I chose the Kenko over the Canon due to price and the fact that all the reviews showed that it held up in the sharpnesscategory. I know it isn't weather sealed, but I don't own any other lenses than the 70-200, that are. I don't take pictures in anything but dry weather so I don't see that as a problem.

Where I live I only see one once a year and it's looks pretty much brown to me. Kick-ass birds by the way![Y]

nice shots jayson. i too use a 70-200f/4, but on an XSi, and am looking for a tc.....which kenko do you have?? the pro300 or the mc4?? and when you got it, did you compare it to the sigma or tamron??

Exactly, where did you take these? I know red squirrels are all over Europe, but in the States they are scarce...

The Kenko that I use is the pro300 DG. I read some reviews and gave it a try. I never have compared it to the other TC because I didn't have the money to buy them to try once I purchased the 70-200. The reviews I read said that the Kenko and Tamron were basically the same optics by the same company, just different names on the TC. I like it, so that works for me.


I never realized how saturated the photos were until I saw them on another computer today. My photo computer with the calibrated monitor crashed two days ago, so it appears this one is a little on the red side. For the most part, that is the color of the squirrel. I live in Nebraska/Iowaand we have this color of squirrel in theMidwestand then black colored squirrels also. I believe the black squirrels are from across the Missouri River.

Here is one of the black squirrels. I don't see a whole lot of them, but they are quite different.

I was driving around the local lake and this guy was raiding the bird feeder. This was the last of four pictures as he made his escape.

It could be possible that the entire squirrel population survives onscrapsbirds leave behind [;)]! This one I caught red-handed... running away with a piece of bread meant for a duck. I'll let you write the caption for the 2nd picture [:D].

This feeder is 100% guaranteed against squirrels getting your seed....but it needs to be brought in on cold nights. [:D]

No way! Those birds are shy as heck, how long was she waiting?

Actually Tim we didn't even have to wait....they started dropping into the lower branches as soon as we arrived.


These birds have been being fed for years now, but we did have a first....a nuthatch landed in her hand.

I can't believe you were able to get that close, let alone have them sit on your wife's finger. That is amazing. They must be pretty acclimated to people being around there. Nice shot.

Believe or not, It's actually pretty easy. Stay still, get some seed in your hand, and chickadees, nuthatches and titmice will come before you know it.

Brendan....I don't know if I'd go that far if you're talking about the backyard. I've tried it in my backyard a few times and I've run out of patience waiting which I never seemto do (lose patience)when the camera is stuck to my face. [:P]


But I totally agree if you visit an Audubon site or something similar.


Jayson....find an Audubon site near you, take some seed w/you and I'll bet you'll have the same results.
