Anyhone have the 70-200 2.8 IS II ?
B&H used to claim they had it in stock, but now their website says "available for preorder." I'm wondering if anyone knows if they really did have it in stock or if the website was in error. (If they really had it, I would expect it to say "out of stock" when they ran out, not "avaliable for preorder")
Just curious. I'm not anxious or anything :)
Re: Anyhone have the 70-200 2.8 IS II ?
I guess Bryan answered my question... looks like at least one was shipped :)
The IQ looks impressive... better than I expected. I guess if I had ordered with B&H I probably would have it already.
Not that that matters. I'm not anxious in the least.
Re: Anyhone have the 70-200 2.8 IS II ?
It does look very impressive. I just don't use my 70-200 enough to justify the $2500 though.
Re: Anyhone have the 70-200 2.8 IS II ?
I use mine almost every day. That's probably still not enough to justify $2500, but what the hey. [:)]
Re: Anyhone have the 70-200 2.8 IS II ?
I feel good that it is still on-par with the 70-200 f/4 IS which I have. As long as I don't need the extra stop, I got the IQ! I think with the 2.8 II will make the extenders much more attractive, however.

Plus I promised myself that my next lens (especially in this price range) would be the 85 1.2 II.
Re: Anyhone have the 70-200 2.8 IS II ?
I second that! $2,500 is to much money to upgrade to another 70-200mm. I'd have to see a more substantial improvement like f/1.8 added.
85mm 1.2 or 50mm 1.2 will hopefully be my next purchase.

Really? @ $1,840 & $1,379 (On sale) VS $379.95 & $89.95 for the f/1.8 models,.. It is always that last stop of light (or two) that really puts a lens into expensive territory. Nice build, optics and coatings for sure but I'll stick with the 1.8's and my cash. - I'm sure you know the 85mm f/1.2 is focus by wire, be sure to try it first, and retract the focus before returning to the box (a mount is required to drive the motors) or it won't fit back in the original packing.
Sorry to go a bit off topic, but I felt is was ironic that we are talking about a similar difference in price and engineering for the 70-200 MkII when you reveal your plans for L glass with a comparable premium attached. Hey whatever works with your budget, I'm sure you'll have fun exploring the subtleties of the high end should you throw down.

I would really like to have one, especially after checking Brian's iso-crops... but it is definitely out of my budget. I really love and will stick to the f/4 IS
Re: Anyhone have the 70-200 2.8 IS II ?
Received the lens last Friday. It was pouring, so no pictures then. But I have since taken it out and am incredibly impressed!!! It is sharp at 2.8, like the mark 1 version is at 5.6...even at 200mm. It is super quiet, focuses like no tomorrow, and the IS is near silent, with no jumping like the previous version. All in all, I would say totally worth it, especially if it is mounted on a camera 90-95% of the time(which is in my case). Here is a sample taken of a fire hydrant(no laughing!), with a crop alongside. I am not disappointed one bit. And the colors and contrast are especially good. More pictures, too, with specs. It is a little heavier than mark 1, but I have a battery grip on my 5D2, and it balances very well, BTW.

Re: Anyhone have the 70-200 2.8 IS II ?
Thanks for posting the pics, Gregg. Very impressive.
I got tired of waiting for Amazon and ordered from B&H. It shipped today. All doubts dissappeared after I looking at Bryan's data. (The following comparisons expecially impressed me: new lens at f/2.8 compared to old lens at f/8, new lens at 200mm compared to the 200mm f/2.8 prime, 70-200 with extenders compared to the 100-400. I don't say the 70-200 is better in each of these cases, but it is a lot closer than I expected.)
I'll say it again: I'm not anxious.
Re: Anyhone have the 70-200 2.8 IS II ?
hi Jon. I had it pre ordered on Amazon, too, and nothing. So when Bryan put up the link to B&H and Adorama, I dropped Amazon, immediately ordered from B&H on Wed night, and got it Fri morn first thing. This lens is fantastic, and like I said, will stay on one of my 2 cameras pretty much all the time!! I have a double photo shoot this Sunday for toddlers, so we will put in action and see. But I don't expect any disappointment!!
