Assignment 8: Leading Lines
Good morning everyone (at least it is morning for me)! We have assignment 8 ready to go today. Travis Chance has asked that we do an assignment on Leading Lines: "visually interesting but compositionally simple." If you need some additional inspiration here is a Wikipedia definition: "Leading Lines are lines that guide your eye through the painting or
photograph." Have fun shooting, just make sure your submissions are in by April 2, Good Friday for the christian among us, also the day you can stop worrying about getting pranked!
Sorry about that! I was away for easter weekend, and never really got caught up on stuff this week, so the forum was completely out of my head. Anyway, i have compiled a finalist list, so here is the list with the poll at the bottom.

Downtown Chicago. Canon PowerShot G1, 7mm, 1/500, f/5.6.
(This shot is several years old, but it was all about "leading lines", and I like it too much to leave it in the cupboard — "old technology", and a hot green pixel, notwithstanding.)

I'm not sure if this counts, tell me if it doesn't meet the requirements and I'll remove it.
7D, 300 f/4L IS, 1/320, f9, ISO 400. The "leading lines" in this one are the shadows in the water.

Second One: 1/125 exposure, F6.3, 18mm, ISO100 (in retrospect should have brought my tripod, bumped it to ISO400, and upped the Fstop as much as I could get away with....)

Nice one, Alex, the depth of field is incredible.
I have to look in my photo-library to see whether I have something that fits in this assignment, pretty hard one.
BTW(Off-topic, I'm sorry), which photo-library program do you use? I use Picassa, and it works great

Thanks Pieter. [:)]
I like to use a 12mm lens at f/9-f/11 for the majority of my landscape images for full depth-of-field.

No problem - I don't mind, and I hope everyone is okay with this semi-irrelevant discussion.
I use Adobe Lightroom 2.0 for organizing my images. It allows me to import, edit and export all of my images in a streamlined worflow. I'm sort of an Adobe nerd, sorry. [:)]
I have used Picasa as well and I think it's great. I just prefer Lightroom for it's editing/fixing options and it's intelligent export options (Zenfolio, Facebook and Flickr direct export). Very rarely do I do any more editing to my images than what I can do in Lightroom, but all that may change when Adobe Photoshop CS5 comes out in April. [:)] I have to admit, HDR seems really cool to try sometime. I currently use Photoshop Elements 4.0 (Ancient! I know!) for Panoramas and I have been pleased with the results so far.

Re: Assignment 8: Leading Lines
That's got to be Yellowstone NP, right? Went there last year and enjoyed it very, very much. The tripthere was basically the reason to buy an SLR(currently the 1000D, and saving money for a 50D)...

Re: Assignment 8: Leading Lines
Yep,we spent the day at Yellowstone and I shot away. This wasn't one of the better shots, but it does have leading lines.

It was my favorite entry in the vanishing point assignment, although it didn't count. [:P] Anyway good luck!

Re: Assignment 8: Leading Lines
Great stuff here so far. I felt like I saw an image today I wanted to create... I was discouraged as I don't believe I was able to physically realize what I was seeing in my head. This is the result. I was attempting to come up with an abstract piece for this assignment. Thanks for looking y'all.

Re: Assignment 8: Leading Lines
Another great bunch of submissions guys - well done!
I had a little trouble coming up with something for this assignment that wasn't too similar to the Vanishing Point assignment. Made me think about what I was doing I suppose which was fun.
Took this one about 10 mins ago of one of my guitars. The lovely Cole Clark Fat Lady. Solid bunya pine and Australian rosewood deliciousness (that's a real word by the way). I thought the lines in the grain of the wood made for some nice contrast and the strings kind of lead my eye back toward the body of the guitar and the build label inside.
40D, 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 @ 10mm & f/8, ISO 100, 1/200 sec. Lighting from a single 580 exII shot through a white umbrella directly above subject.
Cheers! Ben.
