Good one, Mark!
Must have taken a lot of tries before all three triplets were posed just so at the same time [;)]

Last night after observing a few galaxies with my telescope, everyone's favorite pair of summer nebulae rose from behind a tree, and I decided to try a quick picture. It is a far cry from what the serious guys get, but given that it was only a 2 minute exposure (I didn't polar align accurately and I was too sleepy to haul out the autoguider) and taken from my light-polluted back yard, it didn't turn out so bad.
The field is just over 2 degrees, or a bit less than five full moons wide.

Lagoon Nebula (M8) and Triffid Nebula (M20)
5DII, Astrophysics 130GT + field flattener, 819mm @ f/6.3, 121 seconds unguided, ISO 1600
The field flattener really seems to control those star images at the corners (this is almost the whole 35mm frame). And I spent $90 on a special EOS adapter which was supposed to control vignetting, and it seems to have worked.
If I have the energy and time tonight, I'll try a longer exposure with the autoguider.

Up until now my longest lens was the 70-200F4L so I haven't done any birding before or really any work at this kind of focal length. Any comments and suggestions would be more than welcome. I'm least happy with the first photo because of the lack of colour (overcast day) but I like the framing, the age of the bird, and the focus hit pretty well so I included it.
All of the photos are uncropped and larger resolutions can be found on my Flickr:

Little slow on PP this week. Here are my contributions. Bumped up the contrast a little in the Fluffy weed. Don't remember what it is called right off hand.

Hi Alex,
Sorry I took so long, but here it is.

You can see that 1) there is quite a lot of noise 2) the tracking isn't perfect, the stars are a little elongated even after only 2 minutes and 3) the seeing wasn't great, so everything is a little blurry.
Last night I took an autoguided 12 minute exposure which came out a little better. I also tried a 40 minute autoguided exposure, but I accidentally unplugged my computer at the start of the exposure and the thing died in the middle. Very frustrating. I'll probably try again tomorrow.
thought you guys and gals would get a kick out of this. my oldest hound bailey loves to pose.[8-|]

As far as the noise concerned, I will be not surprised to hear in 5-10 years this is not just a noise, but relict radiation or something like that. :)

I assume those were taken with your 5DII. What focal length, aperture, lens, etc?

This is the same setup I used to take the pictures of my own son from earlier in this thread. I used a 24'' Lastolite EZBox (highand camera right)for that though.
That is some great work Mark. That little guy was sure happy you were taking his picture![;)]

Hey Everyone,
I'm new to the Forum. I've really enjoyed reading all of the interesting discussions and I thought I would like to join in.
The photos below were taken at the 2010 Jones Beach Memorial Day Air Show.
All of the Photos were taken with a Canon EOS 7D and a Canon EF 300mm 2.8L IS with a 1.4x II teleconverter, hand held. The photos were all taken right on the Beach near the water.
I mostly used Shutter Priority ISO 100 which worked to be between f4 or f5 at 1/640sec and 1/1000 of a sec. I tried to use the lower shutter speed for the props. I also used Auto White Balance with + 2/3 to +1 Exposure Compensation.
Comments or Critiques are more than welcome.

Nice ones of the Blue Angels Rich, at which airshow were they taken?
Thanks Brendan,
Oh..., I'm sorry..., I forgot to add Jones Beach is in New York on the South Shore of Long Island. It's become an Annual event and this was my first Air Show taking Pictures. I recently purchased the 300 2.8 and the guys at the Camera Store were talking about the Air Show, so I thought I would give it a try.

Here's a late addition to this thread...it was shot on June 5, but I finally finished the post-processing on the wedding (and I promised myself I wouldn't post any of the shots until I had everything done).
