Thanks for the comments. I was really happy with these shots. I haven't done this type of macro before and was very surprised with how thin the DOF was using the tubes. I still need to practice. Sad part is all that I have in my back yard is the spiders and flies. No flowers or other bugs. Looks like it will be a field trip with the boys!

Brendan -
That's a brilliant shot... great capture. You used the lighting and the background to fine effect. It is a truism that there is "no such thing as bad light". Somewhere, a good picture can be found no matter what the conditions. My only suggestion here would be to have tried this with a fill flash, although it might also have made it look a bit unnatural. On the plus side, a flash would have probably put a sparkle in the eye, which I always like to see with bird and wildlife shots. Again, nicely done.

thanks Jonathan.
I don't have a flash yet, all funds going towards a supertele. Not decided on which, I wish there was a 200-900mm f/3.2L IS USM lens that weighed like 1 pound.
Re: What did you shoot? June 21 through June 27
Brendan, I totally agree with Jonathan, I like to see some catch light in the bird's eye.

Be more realistic, I'll be very happy if they can make a 600mm 5.6 weighed less than 4 pound (which is handholdable for me)with a price tag of $4500-$5000[:P]

John,
Very nice captures. The dragon fly is a great shot. I usually have to walk quite a distance with the boys in the wagon to even see dragon flies and they are very skittish most of the time. The one I captured was having a snack so he let me get good and close. I haven't seen a blue dragon like the one you captured. I will definitely be on the lookout. Great shots.
Jayson

Thanks, Jayson! At that location, these little blue guys (called "Blue Dasher") are all over the marsh, hundreds of them, so there's lots of opportunities to shoot them here. They perch all over the place, and seem to re-visit the same perch many times, so although the above shot was handheld, there's time to set up a tripod if you like.
I saw a very striking one fly by me the other day, a damselfly called the Ebony Jewelwing (I think) - electric blue body and completely jet black wings. Unfortunately, it zipped by without landing, and I've only seen the one. I'll be on the lookout, too!

I left my coffee cup outside the other day, and this guy crawled inside and started smiling:

I don't like this last as much (needs more DOF, for one thing), but it lets you see the scale:

Had a shoot for a gun parts site too.

Re: What did you shoot? June 21 through June 27
Cool shot Keith!
What's up with all the guns around here this week?
@John, perhaps a lower angle for the water-lillie would be better. I do like the Dragon Fly shot! I never get too close to them and you're right about the revisiting. They often fly around and keep returning to one particular area. Never tried waiting for one...I'll try it once.
Re: What did you shoot? June 21 through June 27
Nice shot, Keith. Only comment is not directly photographic - not sure what the intent was here in terms of product, the sight seems a bit beat up and dirty, but everything else in the shot seems pretty shiny and new, especially the nicely color-contrasted bracket for the sight(there are some scuffs on the clips).
@Jan, I agree that a lower angle would have been better - unfortunately, I was shooting from a boardwalk over the marsh, with the camera already as low as it could go on the tripod (hanging from the reversed center column).

Can't do a thing about that I guess, unless you would have gone into the water obviously [A]
I just looked, but I didn't shoot much this week...only a triathlon game this saturday, but nothing special to show [:(]

Thanks Jan and John!
I'm actually sitting in front of the computer cleaning all that stuff up now. I posted one I hadn't gotten to yet I guess.
The products are actually the red bracket that holds the site, the muzzle(?) and the silver piece on the grip.
The guy I shot them for just had his courier drop them off and then pick them up later. They were all set up already so I just shot what he supplied and going to fix the problems in post.
