you may already knew or already figured it out.
the other day I visited some photography websites(in Chinese), on those sites, people were talking about Canon 328, Canon 640... at the beginning I didn't understand what they were talking about then figured out they were talking about Canon lenses
Canon328 IS stands for Canon 300mm f2.8L IS
same thing like Canon 428, 440, 456, 540, 640, 856
thinking it's interesting and want to share with you guys

Well, for Canon lenses at any rate. I can't make much sense of APO DG EX DC HS OSM... [:P]

what about the 228? is that the 20 2.8 or the 200 2.8? or would the 20 be the 48? :P

The intermediate f-numbers are obvious:
- yellowish-green = f/1.6
- greenish-yellow = f/1.8
- reddish-yellow=f/2.2
- etc.
So rather than typing out the cumbersome and unclear "161mm f/2.2", you can write this instead: "Ae0001mm reddish-yellow" and everyone will immediately know what you're talking about.
But what about I.S., USM, L, II, etc.? Simple, each one of these has a special character:
- ! = I.S.
- @ = USM
- # = L
- II = $
- Macro = %
So a "100mm f/2.8 L IS USM Macro" would be: "Az0000mm red #!@%".
