The 180mm is an awesome lens. Ever since the 100mm F2.8L IS Macro was released it seems like B&H always has used copies. If you could find one that is a 10 you might get a good deal.
An excerpt purportedly from Canon to dealers, along with the % increases and new price estimates for affected lenses/flashes, can be found HERE.
This is good news for the used market, bad news for the new market.
I wonder if the 16% for the 800mm jump is an indication of the prices we can expect to see with the new 500mm F4 and 600mm. I would think Canon would want the 800mm to still be the most expensive lens. So they had to raise it a larger percentage to allow for the pricing of the new Tele
OUCH!!
Well, I'm glad I put off selling my 17-55mm and moved the 135L up on my list ahead of a 5d mk II ...now if I could just get a copy that works!! [:(]
No word on camera prices going up I hope!

about the new lenses, I think the 600mm probably will be a lit more than $110000,because 600mm should be a little more expensive than the 400mm 2.8 and not sure it will be more than the new price of the 800mm, but I bet it will.
prices has jumped up already!
e.g., B&H and Adorama have raised the price of 500mm 4.0 IS from $6140 to $6399( that's why I don't like them[:D]), Amazon and J&R still have the old price but are out of stock. only one store on ebay still selling it for $6129(by the time I'm writing this).
so it is true!
If there was any more doubt that lenses are better investments than camera bodies...
Every single lens I own, all bought over the last three years, now sells for more than what I bought it for. And I don
Holy crap, i just checked amazon and the 50 1.8 is now $130. And two nights ago I swear when I was researching macro lenses, the Canon 100mm 2.8 non-L was $519 on B&H. Now it
Prices go up in any market, but I think this is also the gradual impact of the weakened dollar. Canon couldn
Prices have gone up...but not as much as the increases reported at the link I posted above. That couldmean prices will go up even further on 2/1, but sinceretailers now know the price increase has leaked, they're jacking up prices a bit right now, to squeeze a little more $ from customers who want to buy before the (real) increase.
A week ago there were rebates, if the prices go to those in Neuro
Many of the just-increased prices on canonpricewatch were adjustments to post-rebate prices (e.g. the 85L went from $1970 to $1999, but the rebate price last week was $1840).
not all the lenses had rebates, 200mm 2.0 used to have $500 rebate but not seen this time.

The 500mm had $500 off for May-June 2010, but that's the only rebate in the 3.5 year history shown.
The 400 f/5.6 was $100 off for most of 2008
The 400 f/2.8 was $250-$300 off in 2008, and $1000 off in May-June this 2010.
The 600mm, 800mm lenses were also rebated during May-June this year.
Whether the plentiful super-tele rebates this year point towards future rebates, or if we won't see them rebated again for another 3+ years, I don't know.

But this year pretty much every expensive super-tele had a rebate. Compared to historical data, this year has seen plentiful rebates on super-teles.
All super-teles having rebates this year could mean any of three things. First, they'll be joining a yearly rebate trend, as more people move to DSLRs and want to shoot far away wildlife, etc. Second, it was a cashflow move. As in, "We need cash. Lets offer a rebate on our super expensive lenses, and see how many people who've been sitting on the fence bite." Third, something else that hasn't crossed my mind.

Another thought, they were playing around with the super-tele prices via rebatesto help better gauge the demand for the super-teles at different prices so that they could better set expectations and prices of the new super-teles. Or.....clearing inventory to make way for the new super-teles.
BTW...this thread is really making me want to buy the 100 macroL before Feb 1.....and I haven't even received my flash yet. [:@] I guess for6% (13% based on current amazon price) I can be "good" andwait. David's link was very helpful, looks like the 100 macroL almost always is included in the rebates.
Well, Rumor or not, the 500L just went up by $300 since I last checked. I was almost in the position to get one, and now this? #$%^&* Canon Marketing Execs

As also mentioned on that page, the new price of this lens is pegged
at $6631, so there is still another $350 of price increases to come, if
you're sitting on the fence...
