Assignment 20: Congratulations nvitalephotography!
Since Ade was very quick with selecting his finalists, the poll is here already! The poll expires after 3 days.
First a small word from Ade:
First off I would like to give out two commendations for ones that didnt make the final cut;
Patham's Sunglasses, LOL, I loved the fact that you had to 'break them a bit more' to get the shot, that's dedication.
QWrad's big pile of rubbish, again was above and beyond the call of
duty, a pity you couldnt get to the pile you liked, AND missed the
deadline Better luck for the next one!
Ade selected the following submissions and added his motivation by each:
nvitalephotography
Motivation: An object used to create art, then discarded as rubbish, only to become
art itself. Exactly what the assignment asked for, not the subject but
the capture, I liked it. Reminded me of 'Shed Boat Shed' - 'Art Rubbish
Art', The next Turner prize? who knows.

CLS
Motivation: Again, encompasses the idea of the assignment well, its hard to think
anyone would want to take a picture of a storm drain, but the
composition and capture of the shot has turned it into an interesting
piece of art, I like how the the ball stands out as a key part of the
picture, and how the motion blur of the water just adds that finishing
touch.

ddt0725
Motivation: Not completely convinced it is your house, but nevertheless I like the
framing of the shot and it also kept me interested for a while, there is
a lot going on, but its well balanced so I found myself looking at the
whole shot, not just any one key component, the house number adds a
quirky touch, does it still get mail?

Re: -NEW- Assignment 20: Rubbish, Garbage, Trash
Great subject: Where I live, the old washing machines, couches and beer boxes along the road out number mile markers by at least 3:1---perhaps I finally found a subject that is abundant in my neighborhood[+o(]

I was thinking something like a Nikon mirror box as an ashtray. Would that count even though Nikon was trash to start with?

Re: -NEW- Assignment 20: Rubbish, Garbage, Trash
Great idea Ade! I'll get us started I guess. It can only get better from here, right? [;)]
I just took this one the other day in an abandoned acreage behind my house. I posted it here in "best current shots" but I figure it fits in nicely here.

Alex, you have a lonely drawer. I have a lonely door... which has nothing more to protect.

Re: -NEW- Assignment 20: Rubbish, Garbage, Trash
I've been quite the lurker on this website, absorbing as much information as I can both from Bryan's reviews and the various topics on these forums. Outside of a few random posts here and there, here is my first submission for an assignment:

This time I actually went out looking for something to take a picture of instead of being lazy and posting something from my archive.
Here's my entry, but I couldn't decide what to call it: "Rusty Cart" or "Rustic Art" ?

Re: -NEW- Assignment 20: Rubbish, Garbage, Trash
Hi, nice submissions so far, I especially like the Rusty Cart. Yesterday evening I was out for some recreation with my camera and this time I decided to go really light with only the 10-22 on my T1i. Of course a few seabirds recognized the UWA lens and made nice poses at safe distance just to tease me. On the other hand I captured some nice spring views and I also spotted a detail that made me think of the current assignment. We had lots of snow this winter and the meltwater brings various stuff with it on its way to the sea, e.g. last summer’s toys. Let’s call my submission “Behind Bars”.

I kind of like how the only part of the image that doesn't look like rubbish is actually the only thing that is - the rest belongs there.
EXIF: T1i, EF-S 10-22 @ 11 mm, f/13, 1.3 sec, ISO100.

I went on a rubbish hunt around the house and found this pair of sunglasses I had accidentally broken a few weeks ago. So I broke them a bit more and then arranged them in a funny shape. :)

Most beetles are an integral part of the forest ecosystem, helping to break down decaying organic matter. When they die, they are broken down in turn - the circle of life. Most beetles...but not this one...

Not too many submissions for this assignment so far, but I like that the assignment seems to have induced a lot of people to go out and take pictures, rather than pulling them from the archive. Although I didn't go out specifically for this assignment,I ran across this on the trail toward a local GBH rookery yesterday afternoon. This is why I take my 17-55mm along when I go out to shoot birds with my 7D and 100-400mm.

LOL! It has been raining here for days and days and days (when it's not been snowing)! If I don't see sun soon & get to go out and shoot something, I'm going to go completely insane, break something in my house and then I'll have something to add!

Re: -NEW- Assignment 20: Rubbish, Garbage, Trash
OK, I'm going to give it my best shot!
I've had all I can take of the weather lately so yep, I went completely insane! This first photo is my entry and I'll call it "My House"! [+o(]

I found this looking for access to a GBH rookery. Down a road that goes to a swamp.

So, I am thinking that they got into a classic battle of "taste great" vs "less filling"and the unopened Keystone Light was a casualty. [:P] More likely the cops or parents showed up.

This thread has a 'sticky' tag, but it's rolling down the page. Not sure if that's the forum software refresh, or the expiration was set for today. Maybe a mod can check?

Yep...that's right! The submission-period is hereby officially closed [:D]If you're in some sort of time-zone where the 27th isn't over yet, just let me know [;)]
We'll try to put the poll online as soon as possible.

Re: -NEW- Assignment 20: Rubbish, Garbage, Trash
Oh my, after months of lurking around reading the forums I finally sign up and decide to participate in an assignment and then I miss the deadline :( This would have been my submission if I had been on time:

"Kings of the trash mountain" Canon 7D + 70-200 f/4L IS USM, f/4.5, 1/320s, ISO100, handheld
I visited a local recycling plant/landfill for this assignment specifically. Too bad it was closed because of Easter and I couldn't get really close to the actual dump area as I would have liked. This pile of trash was near a metal recycling station outside the actual gates to the landfill area. That's the reason I didn't post this before as I hoped that I could visit the site again and get some better shots of gulls digging through the trash or the garbage trucks dumping their loads. Anyways a nice assignment and great photos everyone!

That sure is a big pile of junk!
Congratulations to the finalists! Happy voting!

Re: -NOW VOTING- Assignment 20: Rubbish, Garbage, Trash
@nvitale: Congrats to the well deserved first place!
I was quite proud of my entry making it to the final voting, and I’m really happy with the second place. I don’t know if it’s vanity but somehow the fact that my photo was selected for the voting, and that some of you actually voted for it, makes me even more hooked on the whole photography thing. (As if that was needed…)

thanks everyone. Kind of surprised I won when I saw some of the other entries and seeing as how it was such a unusual thing for me to photograph, its a bit different than the wildlife that make up my normal subjects.
