Assignment 21: Unique Perspective WINNER: freelanceshots
UPDATE: freelanceshots won the "Unique Perspective" contest. He should now contact Jan to arrange the next assignment's topic.
Congratulations to Nick (nvitalephotography) for winning assignment 20. He has selected for this assignment "Unique Perspective.
In his own words:
For this assignment I
propose a subject (broader than the last few assignments) of unique
angles/perspectives.<span> Its easy to go out
and photograph familiar subjects in the same way and then end up having many of
them have a very familiar feel to them.<span>
So go out and climb a ladder, get down on the ground, show us something
that makes us all say “ wow,<span> I never
thought of photographing that subject like that.”
Submissions will be open till May 22.
Please include EXIF data if you have it!
If you want to put more than one picture up please specify which will be your official entry into the assignment. Otherwise we will assume that it is the first picture in a post.
Thanks!
And now, the finalists:

<p class="MsoNormal"]<span style="font-size: 11pt; color: #1f497d;"]motivation: I love the symmetry of this photo and love how the tower is silhouetted against the sky.
<p class="MsoNormal"]<span style="font-size: 11pt; color: #1f497d;"]
<p class="MsoNormal"]<span style="font-size: 11pt; color: #1f497d;"]The model by TakahiroW4047

<p class="MsoNormal"]<span style="font-size: 11pt; color: #1f497d;"]Motivation:
this shot looks so natural and pleasing that it wasn't initially
obvious to me that is was photographed from a unique angle and that's
why I think this unique perspective is so great.
<p class="MsoNormal"]<span style="font-size: 11pt; color: #1f497d;"]

Motivation:
It seemed like many peoples interpretation of this assignment was to
get low and photograph the subject looking up. This is probably my
favorite of those.

Motivation:
I think this one captured the idea of the assignment perfect. Its a
very unique shot and I would have never thought of photographing a fly
like this.

Re: Assignment 21: Unique Perspective
Did you use a ladder or tall tripod and a TS-E 17mm f/4 lens?
-
Re: Assignment 21: Unique Perspective
I would say that there are 2 ladders on either side of the bed...with a support in between, give Takahiro this perspective ...possibly he was lying down while taking this shot....
but what I like is the lighting...did a very good job of not blowing any highlights, with this much white...great job

Re: Assignment 21: Unique Perspective
Haha everyone's fairly close [;)]
Actually I wasn't up there at all. I used a heavy duty boom arm typically used for my monolights. The screw on the end is the standard size so it screws onto the bottom of the camera. The boom was raised with the camera leveled pretty much against the ceiling, and it was triggered with the remote!
I'm thinking of continuing this angle for a while, except the next one wont be over a nice soft bed....I'm thinking over the pool...Where's that thread talking about insurance!? [:D]

Re: Assignment 21: Unique Perspective
My submission. saved to flickr without exif data. I take so many pictures I can't remember what camera and lens where the original image is buried in one of my HDs. Image was taken at the Governors Mansion in Little Rock. Covering a high society party there were I snuck off and went exploring. Later was rounded up by secret service and escorted back.
Most likely 40D and the 16-35II lens

The State Capitol Rotunda area in Little Rock, AR. Two images stitched together. 5D2 and the 15mm fisheye lens. This building has such a unique ceiling where its awesome to look up where everything ground up is white marble.

Re: Assignment 21: Unique Perspective
Thanks for the compliment and the rotunda lighting was all natural. I'm almost positive that I used three exposures a piece for the up and down view as it is a true 180 plus degree view. I shot a spherical 360 x 180 panorama in there and it just did not really impress me like seeing it first hand. Thought of doing this shot because to get a scope of the actual beauty you have to see the hole in the floor and how it reaches up into the dome which is huge and looks like a majestic painting when photographed by itself. The downside of the photo is that the lens compresses it all making it look like a smaller area plus from the distortion correction a lot of the width had to be lost to the crop. I Should have considered stretching the photo length wise to make it look more accurate but I didn't do it at the time.
Here is a straight up shot of the ceiling taken with a 30D and the 17-55IS lens years before. As you can tell I like to look up at things.

Re: Assignment 21: Unique Perspective
The State Capitol here is the perfect place to capture some unique interior shots. I have taken so many photos and nobody really gets to see them so its fun to go back and share them. I don't have many followers on flickr so I don't get many page views there. Just had to wait and capture something extra to make the image more interesting and then this mother/grandmother and daughter walked up the stairs and it was the perfect time.
I'll stop posting know.

Re: Assignment 21: Unique Perspective
The standard of entries is really high again, so my "entry" is more in the spirit of sharing than competing. I've been so short of time recently that I've had to raid my archive again. This picture is of me getting seriously cold in an Antarctic storm, with my mode of transport right behind me. It gives you some clue what I had to endure to get the pictures of cute penguins.

The scientifically minded amongst you might like to estimate the wind speed based on the distance travelled by the snow flakes during the exposure.
By the way, that red thing round my neck is a life jacket, in case I fell through a crack in the ice (which was two metres thick). I'm not sure it would have been much use. The cause of death would have been 'hypothermia' instead of 'drowning'.

Re: Assignment 21: Unique Perspective
Posting these photos above got me interested again in seeking to turn in my spherical panaorama to the folks at the state capitol. I was just doing it originally for fun and maybe a little free promotion and then got bored with it before turning in the final copy. On a whim today I dropped by and met with the Photography Manager through the Secretary of State

Taken a while back on a hot air balloon trip and luckily the winds were in my favor and the route went right over my neighborhood. This shot is of a harbor about 1km from my apartment building. The following shots are from the same trip but I really liked the first one for the assignment because of it's unique perspective ([:P]) and quality over the others. Too bad I didn't have my 7D and new lenses back when we took that trip! Sorry if this is too many images for the assignment thread and thanks for viewing!
