Polarizer filter do you leave
Lately I been wondering how others use their Polarizer Filter. Yes I do know when and how to use it but my question is do you leave the lens hood on when using your polarizer?
I've been leaving my hood on and turn the polarizer with my finger inside the lens hood and asking myself is it necessary to leave it on and is there any benefits?
Any thoughts and/or opinions?
Thanks.
Re: Polarizer filter do you leave
Depends, what lens and hood? Shallow petal-hoods like on most of the ultra-wide angle lenses around i

It's not strictly necessary, but it is definitely very beneficial for flare and contrast, which are especially important when using a filter.

Thanks everyone. I guess I'll continue to leaving the hood on. Now I won't feel silly anymore thinking people are looking at me sticking my finger down my lens hood, lol

I can't believe Canon doesn't offer Hoods with a notch in them to adjust the CPL.
Here is an example of the Pentax Hood. (Middle of Page)

Anyone have any other suggestions other then hacking up all of my hoods?

Re: Polarizer filter do you leave
Can you not buy the pentax hood in a size that fits your canon lens?
Otherwise, give it a few months, search ebay, and you can buy them for $2 from china.
.
My magnet suggestion has a few merits in theory, if it ever works in practise i
Re: Polarizer filter do you leave
@icanon: I keep mine on definitely when shooting in full sun. I don't have deep hoods and am able to turn them with relative ease when needed.
@Richard: Thanks for the link and as for a suggestion - just stop cutting your fingernails....[:D]

Why has no-one copied Pentax on an after-market Canon hood?
