I'm already enjoying the new forum software. Thanks to Bryan for migrating over all the old posts and accounts!
I LOVE it. I have always been a big fan of this format.. In all seriousness though.. Can anyone change my name back to Rocco for me? lol. I don't.. feel like me.
I've noticed two issues already other than my name. (to be expected I guess.. Nothing migrates without a hitch) The TDP logo in the top left doesn't redirect back to the-digital-picture.com.. and now there isn't even an attempt at a search bar. Still a WIP Bryan?
Woo, I made it.
Logged on 5 times and then realised maybe I should have used the 'forgotten password' thingy, now I'm in.
I did notice a few threads have text missing, i'll check back later to see if they're fixed.
Also, we all joined at the dawn of (unix) time?
hmmm, one thing I am noticing is that if there is an apostrophe near the first few words of a post, everything after that post gets cut out. Maybe this is a bug that will fix itself, maybe not, we will see what happens in a few hours. In the meantime, I am going to have to avoid using apostrophes, as I do use them quite regularly (and correctly).
The new format looks great--but will have to explore to find all the bells and whistles---Look everyone, smileys;)
Also had to get a password change.
I really like vbulletin. Pain in the bum to moderate, but that's not my problem here :D
hi guys, nice to see you on the other side...
Woohoo, this forum software is way faster! It sure looks a lot different, but much more organized.
Just like Rocco, probably no-one knows who I am anymore;)
But the most important thing, we've got smileys again!!
Ps: it's pretty cool that I signed up here in januari 1970 already. It would make me 16 years older:rolleyes:
...........so.....fast.........very nice....thanks for all your efforts.
Bryan, Nice work, I have been looking around and really like the new site. Thanks for all the work you have put into to this. Its very fast too.
I did notice that on the Members List there are litterally hundreds of spammers. Just thought you should know.
Bob
If there's an option to change the date-representation individually, that would be great. This style doesn't make any sense to me. Day-Month-Year I think would be better for me.(probably not for the others here;))
I'm still figuring out the forums, but I'm liking it more than before already
Hi everyone,
This is definitely a work in process at this point (I suspect things will be tweaked for a while yet).
Rocco - You are now Rocco again. :)
I am trying to get the top left logo to point to the main site - stay tuned - still learning what I can and can't do with this software.
Dr Croubie - You are correct - Some posts have been truncated at the ' symbol (that is why some posts simply say "I") - I'm checking to see if the developer can correct that issue.
You have indeed all joined at the dawn of Unix. Unfortunately, the developer has not been able to migrate the join date and was not able to guess it from your first post. Perhaps I'll have him pick a different date - if possible.
Search should be working now - the index has been building.
Keep the problem reports coming - I'll do what I can to resolve them!
Best regards,
Bryan
I love how we all joined back in 1970.... :-)
LOGIN INSTRUCTIONS: (If your old password doesn't work)
My old password didn't work, but for those of you that are already registered members, you can have your password reset and a new password will be sent to you, then after logging in you can change your password back to your old password, link is below or found under FAQ-->General Forum Usage-->Lost Passwords):
http://community.the-digital-picture....php?do=lostpw
Once you're logged in, then you can change the temporary password to a new password under "Settings" --> My Account--> My Settings--> Edit Email & Password, in your user profile.
Thanks Bryan and Congrats on the New-Look Site, It looks Great!
Wow it's so big in here!
Rich
HI all. I've had a bit of a change too. My username has been DLS for quite a while now, but back when I first joined the forum, i used Damian S. When I went through the process of resetting my password, my "registered" username came up as Damian S. Its fine but for anyone wondering: DLS=Damian S.
Like the new site Bryan, well done and thank
Thanks, Bryan!
As for issues:
Will add more as I run across them.
- Adding a profile picture from an external link fails (error: "Upload failed due to failure writing temporary file."), however, uploading an image file from local storage does work.
- Parts of my menu bar (in black) are in Spanish.
- Seems to be no way to add images/links to the biography section - not sure if that's a setting to be enabled (rich/advanced entry for the bio field), or if it's limited to plain text.
Hi Everyone! :o
Wow, what a difference a day makes!!
Nice job, Bryan! Looks like this is going to be REALLY SWEEET!!
One more request:
- Would you be willing to remove the 1000 character limit on Visitor Messages? I'm assuming the Bio field is limited to plain text, and a more complete and image-containing bio could be posted as a Visitor Message on a user's own profile page. But mine ends up being over 6000 characters, and errors. Apparently, setting the character limit (User Profile: Visitor Messaging Options > Maximum Characters Per Visitor Message) can be set to 0 for no limit.
I made it through, but have no friends any more. Just like real life. Hmmmmmm.
LOL, great new look, now to get used to it.
Wow, now I'm seeing spanish, Lideres and Miembros, Forum, What's new, and vbSoporte (is that even spanish?) in my black bar, blue bar is fine. Wasn't like that yesterday.
I'm not noticing the speed difference, but that's because I'm in aus and our internet is crap, have to write everything by hand and deliver it by courier-roo to the telegram office to get it posted on the net.
One thing about the old forum I liked, was that it auto went to the 'recently updated threads' page first, so I can quickly see what's been updated since my last visit. Does that exist in the new forum, or haven't I found it yet?
And I joined May 31 this year, still got my welcome email. But I don't mind 1970, in a few years we can use it to distinguish those of us who have been around for ages...
This thing keeps auto-saving, that's nice.
hmmm, ok, now I see the "new posts" on the blue bar, that might not have been there last night.
For some strange reason the main bar is in Spanish or other - what gives?
Edit...
The Navigation bar is a mixture of English and Hispanic.
Been here for just over 15 minutes and this is crazy fast! So far enjoying the confusion but like anything new, patience and time is a virtue!
Kudos Bryan
What happened to all of Bryan's reviews?
LDH01, You can still get to the here: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/
Bryan is aware of the problems with the logo link on this page and is working on the problem.
Hope this helps
Bob,
That does help. How about the news section. I check that daily for updates and deals.
I like the speed of the new forum, it is a huge improvement.
I notice the forum width here is 750 pixels, but if I post a large photo from flickr the size is automatically reduced to 800 pixels, so it doesn't fit. Is it possible to make the forum wider or to automatically resize pictures to fit the reduced width?
The old problem of being logged out while editing a post seems to have followed me to the new forum.
Bob,
Forgot to ask...How is the sports photography venture taking off?
Hmmm, Well, not as well as I hoped. Although I have made a few sales (about $80 profit) its not quite what I was hoping for. But I haven't given up on the idea yet, I just have to figure out how to market it. Even though I have handed out hundreds of business cards, what has seemed to work best is simple word of mouth---Team moms have been my greatest promoter and add agency so far. The following are a few things I think I am doing wrong:
1. Like any business, this requires effort and I have been lazy in regards to soliciting formal permissions from schools and leagues, talking with coaches and parents and handing out a few sample freebies etc.
2. I could have shot alot more games than I have.
3. I got a very late start in the season, so I missed my chance at a couple of local rival games.
4. I am still handing out my "wildlife" business cards-----I need to make new ones with a sports theme.
But....one good thing has come out of this....the hits on my website has trippled in the last two months
So, Although it's fun, and I enjoy shooting the games, I am not sure shooting local sports is lucrative enough to even pay for time, gas, website etc---others have told me this as well. And I am really not convinced that it would ever pay for the right equipment, which I don't have.
I am not giving up yet, I still want to really hit the high school games hard next year before I make any real decisions.
Everyone,
Thanks for all of the issue reports and feedback. I unfortuately had to travel most of the day and will need to be doing so again tomorrow. I definitely will be spending some time tweaking the place and appreciate the help and patience you are giving me.
My priority has been to get everyone logged into the new system, but will address the other issues as soon as I can.
Thanks again,
Bryan
@ Bryan ...some of the members joined the forum before they were born. I have been a member ever since I was 9 years old.
We have a thread in the OPEN section about Sandisc. The last two days I have been talking to Hoodman's tech department because of some of the results I received out of their 32mb card. I directed them to the thread so they could see what we have been doing, but the last few pages are gone and some posts are only partial.
Will the other information and post be there soon, or did the moving company loose them....
NDNitehawk,
My guess is that the developer used a snapshot of the database taken in the middle of your discussion. I think that a "sorry" is the best I'm going to be able to do for you. :(
Made it through, nice look and feel. Good Job Bryan
Bryan
Thanks, really its good how much is actually saved and moved.
It's amazing how much of a difference the "View First Unread Post" button does!
I'm myself again! And with my post count. Somehow I was cloned and there two Rocco's, making password reset impossible. ("There can only be one!") Thanks again for setting that straight Bryan. :)
Thank you Bryan,
As others have mentioned the new forum has a clean look and is much quicker. In a couple of weeks I am sure everyone will be right at home again. Great job!:D
Rocco, good to see you are you again!
I am on now
I just tried a short post. Got an error message: 'reply too short, must be at least 10 characters long'
