What did you shoot?.......Jan 17 to Jan 23, 2011
Hi Everyone,
I didn't see this thread started so I thought I would get it going this week. Here are two of mine:
One of our cats (Chanel). Canon 7D, 50 mm f/1.8 II, 1/60, f/2.2, ISO 800, Plus 2 stops in DPP

And thanks to all of those that recommended I get a flash. I had been happy with the in camera flash on my 7D, but bounced light is even better. The other thing that is really impressing me is how much more consistent the AF has been.
This is a little bright, but I like it. 7D, EFS 15-85 at 85 mm, 1/250, f/5.6, ISO 100, 580 EXII bounced off the ceiling. Highly cropped (~1/4 of the original picture).

Add another Congratulations to you! Well played sir!
I had a rare Monday off so I headed to a nearby watering hole and took these shots. I just got my Canon 10-22mm and had to try it out.

Re: What did you shoot?.......Jan 17 to Jan 23, 2011
@Erno, they are sweet images, very nice. i thought your watering hole had some thing to do with a red wine glass.
Hey Brant, nice pug shot. He looks like he is the Chairmen of the board.
Congrats again Sean, do the smiley face one, I like the heart. Please.

Thank you all for the kind words. Yes, I am trying to figure out how to shoot the wedding and be in it...so I am, of course, addicted to this trade. ;-)
And, as requested, the smiley-faced picture:

Sean, nice photo of the soon to be Mrs. We need one of you striking the same pose! For your wedding, i suggest a helmet-cam. Everyone might think it

The helmet's camera will the be least odd looking part. This is Sean we're talking about. Imagine his assortment of flashes, diffusers, etc, protruding at all sorts of angles from his helmet and shoulder mounts. Of course there will have to be matching mounts on Amber... got to make sure the bride is lit appropriately for the helmet cam to capture. And lets not forget the odd look of a helper wheeling around that 6 foot softbox beside him and/or Amber, everywhere they go.

Re: What did you shoot?.......Jan 17 to Jan 23, 2011
Sean,
My solution is thatyou simply invite everyone from TDP forum to your wedding. You wouldhave the best documented wedding in history. Everyone in attendence would have a camera. The audience would look like a line of paparazzi. [:P]
Seriously, congratulations! That is great, and I must say, a wise move to lock up your main photography subject for life.[Y]
Enro...great pictures. Where were they taken, if you don't mind me asking?
Steve...thanks....our pug might as well be Chairmen of the Board, she pretty much runs everything.

Re: What did you shoot?.......Jan 17 to Jan 23, 2011
Sean, Congratulations!!! Wish the best for both of you. Now she has no choice but to be in your pictures. [:P]
Great shots everyone!
Here are come geese shots from last week and some macro stuff. Started a macro guessing game on my blog so I guess I will be doing that all year long. Geese are with 70-200mm f4 IS and the macro is with the original 100mm macro USM, Kenko 1.4xTC and a whole stack of kenko extension tubes.

Re: What did you shoot?.......Jan 17 to Jan 23, 2011
Great news Sean, and best wishes to you and Amber.
Erno, I love the landscape shots. Makes me want to get out into the mountains again with an ultrawide zoom.
Last weekend I visited the ruins of Dunottar Castle, which overlooks the North Sea. I tried some slightly different post processing on this shot. I wasn't satisfied with the results of the highlight recovery slider in Lightroom (the sky was still very pale), but by reducing the luminance of the blue colour channel I was able to bring out the detail in the sky and the surface of the water.

5D Mark II, EF24-70mm f/2.8L USM @ 24mm, f/5.6, 1/200s, ISO 100 (increased exposure by ½ stop in Lightroom)
This is the Bridge of Dee in Aberdeen, my home town, on a rare sunny day (for January). Some rowers were taking advantage of the fine conditions on the river. They are about a mile from my viewpoint.

Re: What did you shoot?.......Jan 17 to Jan 23, 2011
So many terrific images!
Andy, that castle on the coast is incredible.
Kayaker, your pug made me go back and watch Men in Black. The landscapes I posted are of Lake Tahoe, just south of Incline Villiage. I've kayaked on this lake when there were white caps, so to see it in it's usual serene state is very relaxing to me. Besides a small family of three, I was the only fool out there in the freezing temperatures.
And SteveU, your comment on the watering hole is spot on. Using my ultra wide lens, i had to put my glass of red wine next to the base of my tripod, which is just out of frame!

Re: What did you shoot?.......Jan 17 to Jan 23, 2011
Congrats to you Sean!
Erno, those are some nice images of Lake Tahoe, great comp..
Andy, nice shot of the castle, the sky is very nice, I think the the forground could be brighter.

Re: What did you shoot?.......Jan 17 to Jan 23, 2011
Wonderful shots, Ermo. I love the first, with the rock lead in. And the emptyish space in the second, (which I would have foolishly cropped away in the unlikely event that I had captured such an image) somehow- in a way that is inexplicable to me- makes the shot.

I agree that the foreground is dark, but there was no more headroom to increase the exposure and I'm not really into HDR.If I wait for Canon to release a true 14 bit camera, the castle will have fallen into the sea, so maybe the answer is to go back there at sunset one day.

Re: What did you shoot?.......Jan 17 to Jan 23, 2011
Congratulations to Sean! All the best on your upcoming nuptuals! When can we expect to see the engagement photos released?
Andy, love the picture of the castle! I'm planning to come up that way for a visit in the spring; hopefully the weather will cooperate! Is this castle "accessible" or is it somewhat remote? I don't have a car in this country, so I travel exclusively by publlic transport these days....
Anyway, here is one I took last week of BT tower in Birmingham along the canals. Canon 450D, EF-S 15-85, ISO 100, Tv 1/100, Av 8.0

C&C are welcome!

It's a couple of miles from Stonehaven town centre, so you could walk to it in less than an hour from the train station. Map here. I hope you enjoy your visit.
I've not been back to Birmingham since Iwas a student 20 years ago. At that time, many of the old warehouses and canals were derelict. They have invested a lot to smarten the place up. It looks like you were at Cambrian Wharf for that shot. You had the same problem as me at Dunottar Castle - it was too early in the day and some of the details were still in the shadows.
-
Re: What did you shoot?.......Jan 17 to Jan 23, 2011
Thanks Andy. I'll be sure to check this out sometime this spring.

Yep. That's the spot. I did have trouble with the shadows. Problem is, when the water is calm enough for a good reflection, the sun is never where it should be for the best shot! Ain't that always the way?
