Thanks, they actually do sit in the trees above and take turns coming down to the feeder:)

Juvenile Male Summer Tanager. The plumage will become totally red as this little guy matures but I think he's prettier now:) It was really dark and cloudy this morning and the high ISO had an adverse affect on IQ but I kept this one anyway because it's a tough one to get.

Great shot Neuro. I have just ordered the 600mm f/4L IS II. Will hopefully pick it up next week. Christmas in June :)
+1. Very nice flight shot. The wing extension is very very cool:D

Joel - You have been on fire lately. You have been posting a lot of great colorful birds. All posed really well, and you have cleaned up the backgrounds so well. Thank you for sharing them with us.
Thanks guys....I am glad folks enjoy the images as I certainly enjoy making them:)

You found good titles! Pictures are great, too :)
This has to be the best place on the internet to go to for viewing beautiful bird photos! This page alone says it all ...very, very nice job Joel and John!! What I wouldn't give to attract that many types of birds to my backyard as you do, Joel! Wow!
John those are terrific... I think I like the first one the best. I'm curious, how did you nail the exposure? Did you use a bit of compensation in-camera?
+ heaps on all the comments, great shots Joel and John. That "water walk" shot is full of character and the redheaded woodpecker is superb.
Wow, some spectacular shots recently. I have been away from the site for a little while and missed some of the last posts. Fabulous work.

Joel,
I hope you offer your backyard birds to everyone from this site. If that's the case me and the family are heading to Tennessee in a few minutes for a summer long photo shoot. I can see the line to get into that prized backyard now with the news helicopters hovering away. I can only imagine the fences you have to keep out the paparazzi. (kidding of course)
If I had a tenth of the birds in my postage stamp size suburban backyard I'd me ecstatic.
Ooooh....love those Falconry images....very nice.
I am willing to share of course but let's not leak it to the media;)
If you are in the neighborhood PM me! I am in the very heart of Kentucky.
I have considered offering a low budget workshop but have not gone that far yet! So it's free right now and no fence!
A couple from early May when my wife and I walked through the Seney Wildlife Refuge in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This guy was hanging out around our truck when we got back. He did not like being disturbed, and put on quit an angry show. Nothing spectacular about the second one... I just liked the reflection.

Now that I am home, I have processed more falconry pics from the other camera, which was my 7D with the 40mm pancake (my best option given the relatively poor lighting conditions and the 7D's relative lack of low light performance).
Up close and personal with a Harris Hawk. You can imagine how close he was given the 40mm focal length (even on a 1.6 crop).

I don't have a nice backyard for bird shots, but I do have a big Avocado tree in front of my door. This morning I stepped outside and heard toc toc toc, and when I looked up I saw this:

Not much done in PP (yet) other than 4.4MP crop and Nik Dfine noise reduction.
But the really cool thing is in the Exif data - the file name is already a hint ;)
Thanks Joel - I was very lucky to have a willing subject. The shot is non cropped w the 600 II at f4 on the 1DX. I wish I had another hour in this area to get better BIF shots of the eagles. I got a few but was rushed (guided tour), so I didn't get everything optimized. Here is the best I got (not completely sharp or framed right).Attachment 1899
