Re: Post your best bird shots!
3rd attempt to post this (apologies if it ends up showing up more than once).
Very nice pelican shot, Steve! I wish I could have gottent that close to the hundreds I saw this past week! Still sorting thru to see if any are keepers!
I'm not real "wowed" by any I took from my day trip but I want to at least find a few that I can still keep!

Re: Post your best bird shots!
Really nice Denise, the Egret pops against the green algae. I like the composition and you did a nice job on keeping the whites under control.

Re: Post your best bird shots!

Re: Post your best bird shots!
My first effort to get hummingbird with flower .... not too happy with exposure or the angle of the bird but it's pretty well in focus. I am having trouble with one male hummingbird guarding the feeder so aggressively that no other birds are getting close.

Re: Post your best bird shots!
Nice, that second one looks like the flower has grabbed him. We don't get HB's in Australia, the closest I think we call Honeyeaters. I wouldn't be alone thinking that it just lifts the whole shot with a real flower.[Y]

Re: Post your best bird shots!
At Joel,
That 600mm II is the only lens that temps meover the 800mm. I wonder what would the AF speed be with the 1.4 II? If it's significantly slower that might be a deal breaker. But f/4 is very valuable.

Re: Post your best bird shots!
Hey thanks for the info Raid, nice sharp shots. Galahs are comical birds, I have to try very hard not to walk like one, when I have had one of my long lunches.

Re: Post your best bird shots!
Great exposure, very nice shot Joel--- and just the right amount of wing blur. I just have one question---what kind of flowers are those???
-
Re: Post your best bird shots!
Steve, I love the shots of your lorikeets--Those are cool birds, Just wish I had one or two in my neighborhood.

Re: Post your best bird shots!

Thanks Bob.... I don't know what they are .... I saw them when I was playing golf a few days ago and picked a sprig to bring home.
PS Did you get my email?

Re: Post your best bird shots!
Steve....nice composition and beautiful bird.
Joel....as always...amazing.
Bob...that is a Red Prince Weigela shrub........I have two :).
All three of you....the comments are much appreciated. I am glad you like the loon shots and that you mentioned the low angle. I may be able to get even lower. Something for me to try next time....

Sent it again this AM. Must have mis-typed the address.
It's the first draft of the article on back yard setups.

Re: Post your best bird shots!

Tell us the truth Joel, You discovered this little gem in post didn't you [;)]
-
Re: Post your best bird shots!
Yes, Bob you're correct, I didn't mean to imply that I planned the shot, it was a pure coincidence. [:D]
I did see it on the LCD after I took the image but wasn't sure what it was until looking at it on my laptop

I was just kidding you, I knew you weren't implying anything. I think some of my best shots were discovered in post, you know, those that were unplanned, bad settings or just a lucky catch----
Now, If I could just figure out how to plan those unplanned shots[:S]

Re: Post your best bird shots!
I don't generally prefer birds angled away from the camera but the lighting and colors on this one look very nice to me so I kept it....

300mm f/2.8L + 25mm ext. tube
tripod
1/125
f/14
iso 800
4 flashes set to 1/32 output in manual mode

Re: Post your best bird shots!
Denise, Guessed I missed this one, sorry---I love this shot of the GBH---he looks like the neighborhood "battlebird"--Really a lot of character in this shot. Nice job.

Re: Post your best bird shots!
Those are really really nice Bob. You got the wings very clear and I like the backgrounds.
