Re: Post your best bird shots!
These shots are really fantastic! You really nailed everything on these ...background is perfect, obviously the perfect time of day for fantastic lighting, tack sharp on every shot! It is tough choosing between #2 and #4 but I think I prefer the slight angle of the head head on #2.

Thanks Mark, JJ and Denise!
It looks like #2 or $4. I think I like #2 the best. I do have plenty of pixels to crop, so I think I

Theses image are still part of my first attempt from 2 weeks ago and I'm really loving that birding feeling, so if any of you wildlife specialists have any tips or pointers, I'm certainly interested in your critiques as well, good or bad.
I was thinking of doing a Canvas wrap like Denise did. I just have to figure out the size and the lab. Although, Adorama provided nice customer service, I was a little disappointed in their quality control, for letting that original canvas leave the lab like that, and then the 2nd one had to be touched up as well.
How about Mpix?

Hi Rich -
Your photo is going to look awesome in a wrap! I have a photo myself that I am thinking about getting wrapped and I am not sure if I want to give Adorama one last chance at redeeming themselves. Althought their customer service is top notch, a quality product is what your paying for and hoping to not have to contact customer service. When I was looking before, many people recommended Mpix but there was quite a price difference, which I guess you get what you pay for.
If you do go with them, please post what you think of the final product. I'd be very interested to hear!

Hi Denise,
Thanks for your feedback regarding Mpix!

Richard,
I have ordered several gallery wraps (9 total I think) from Mpix and they are perfect....I especially like their metallic paper.

Re: Post your best bird shots!
Richard,
The metallic paper has a sort of sheen to it, different from glossy, and certain colors seem to really pop, especially blues, whites and silvers to my eye.
I think your pics have a "painterly effect" for a few reasons :
1. The background is pretty far back from the subject
2. The background is fairly homogeneous grass and, since it
Re: Post your best bird shots!
Richard, I had a couple more thoughts :
Can you post a screen shot of the histogram from the unprocessed image?
I am wondering if 1/1000 sec is maybe a little too slow to get great detail on BIF, you might have needed to increase the ISO a little to get more speed....usually I get better results with 1/1600 to 1/2000 or more. The addition of the 2X converter is also known to have an impact on image quality as well as AF performance. You need a lot more light with it in place to make razor sharp images usually.
