Another Great Gray Owl shot. This one was shot early morning in thick fog. I tried cloneing out the dark spots up top to make it hi-key but didnt like the look very much. I would like to hear other peoples thoughts on removing or leaving in the out of focus branches up top. Also i coudnt decide if a loose frame or tighter would be better.

Just placing my hands over the top of the image to block the branches, I prefer that look... so perhaps a tighter crop just by bringing the top down, but leaving the other three edges where they are. Still gives the wings a bit of room, and puts the bird higher, as though he's descending into the frame.
Crop or Crop/Clone combination. I agree with David. I scrolled the picture up so the top of the picture was cropped off, and it looked better. If you prefer, you could cropped most out, and the small amount left could be cloned out easier... that would probably work better and not lose much of the original size.
Also from a purely composition stand point: The bird is looking and coming downward. Therefore, there should be more negative space below him than above... this gives him room to move into (or at least the perception).
Having said all that... very, very cool shot. Love it, and with a small amount of work it gets even better.

Still very much winter here, but in the hopes of spring I went out to see if there were any early returns from migration. Found mostly black capped chickadee's.
