Taken with my new (not even a day old!) Tamron 70-300mm 4-5.6 VC on a Rebel XT body.
Cropped down a ridiculous amount.. Couldn't get close at all before it took off on me.
..point of interest.. anyone know the breed?

I agree, nice Pelican, the pose, head angle and eye contact are cool .... A different crop would make it a much stronger image : I would like to see less water on the right and more on the left so it looks like he has a space to "fly into"

The pelican was close and filled most of the frame,but I have recropped the picture as much as I can. Thanks for the suggestion, Joel.

Nice shots JJphoto !!! Looks like you're havin' fun with that 500. Those are crisp looking. Here's a purple finch female from my yard this afternoon, it's 25 degrees and snowing. I pushed the ISO way up to get enough shutter speed.
