JRW, you're not THAT far away...
- Grab a couple friends and a couple shovels.
- Rent a truck, and drive until you reach lots of snow.
- Fill it with snow (this is where the friends are handy).
- Drive home, and unload the truck in the yard.
- Sleep as the sun rises.
- After you sleep through Christmas, return the truck and pick up your car.

Went out with the my 50 and my 28-135 to try to get some night shots. Took this one with the 50 and I really like how it turned out, this is a crop of the image I got:

Walked further up the street and took a bunch of shots with the 28-135 trying to get sort of the same framing, but didn't get anything I was happy with. Not a very good place further up the street to compose the shot without lots of headlights directly in front of me, so it was hard. Also after using the 10-22 and 50 1.8 and 100 macro, I'm having a hard time being satisfied with what the 28-135 is giving me in regards to image quality.

Jonathan, it's not even remotely near that temperature over here. With +12 Celcius we had the warmest Christmas ever I think. I'll trade with you anyday, beautiful.

Just like last year they were burning candles at the Canadian War Cemetery over here(Christmaseve), but due to the hard winds pretty much all the candles were blown out. Grabbed my bike and tried the local architecture with my new fish-eye:

Here are the some images from a recent waterfall hunting adventure in the upstate of SC. Winter is a tough time to shoot waterfalls as most of the vegetation is brown, and doesn't add much to the framing. At any rate, I was able to see a few places I'd like to re-visit in the spring and fall.

You should dedicate a week or so if possible as the up state of SC and also the neighboring area in NC have a good 20 waterfalls all within 2-3 hrs driving distance. A number of the falls here are GIGANTIC. There are two that I know that are 300+ feet. One of those is the largest fall east of the Mississippi (Whitewater falls). The best autumn shots down here (in the mountains) are had in mid to late October. Its definitely worth the trip.Quote:

First, my father & mother in-laws cat with out of focus highlight background. The tree was properly exposed and the the cat not. I tried to save it the best I could in post and am reasonably happy with the result. This was wide open at f/1.4

@ Dave....#1 is a really great shot. Love all the bokeh balls above the cat. #2 is fun.
@Pat....that is a really well executed shot....one of those pictures that makes me want to get out there and try....but...still too cold here...
