My son was fascinated by the Pink Moon talk so we grabbed the telescope to have a look. I couldn't resist grabbing a picture. I haven't taken a moon shot in a couple years. Used a 7D, 2 - 1.4x Kenko TC, and a 300mm F4L IS.

G'day all, it's been AGES since I've said hello. The wife and I are about half way through our camper van trip through France, Spain and Portugal. Naturally we've seen some amazing stuff and I've been fortunate enough to get a couple of shots along the way too. Here's one I took a week or so ago at a place in the Portuguese Algaves called Boca do Rio. We stayed here by the beach for the night and it's was a pretty spot. Hope you're all well.

Nice shot.
I once spent 5 weeks in Normandy. Reading through your experience at Pointe du Hoc reminded me of my time there. That is a an amazing place as well as the American Cemetery... both are very thought provoking. The locals still talk about what the Rangers did there. Thanks for sharing.

The bears are out and about in the Banff area... this one is my first for the season (with hopefully many more to come!). This grizzly is feeding on grain that spills from railcars, which unfortunately gets some of them killed each year.

Thanks Brant! I thought about that, but the lights at the prison are super orangey yellow like that, so I kept it like that. I originally hadn't even planned on taking that shot, I went to the beach on my bicycle to try to get a picture of the stars, and on the way back the tide had raised and I saw all the reflections so I stopped and set up my tripod once again. I was very pleased with the results. Great shots of the baby as well.Quote:

Pat...great falls. I think I remember a previous shot and the flow was ~1/4 of that. Great thing about waterfalls, they change each time you go back to them.
David...glad things are thawing out. Great set of spring photos!
A couple more from the U.P.. This a waterfall that usually does not have much more that a trickle (which you can not see), but with the snow run off and flooding, it has a good flow to it. The first one is with a 100-400mm L with a 1.4X-II, the second one is with just the 100-400mm L.

Haven't posted anything in a while...here are some recent shots from a 3 day backpacking trip on the Appalachian Trail in Great Smoky Mountains NP. This was the first week in April. There was still as much as 6-7 inches of snow on the ground at higher elevations. Scenery was still a pretty brown since trees hadn't really started filling in, which was kind of disappointing, but I still got a few good shots.

These are from the Chicago Auto Show in February. I found this to be a kind of challenging environment for me. I am used to mostly outdoor photography with very few people around. Trying to take pictures with a million people shuffling by everywhere was kind of flustering. Not to mention I wasn't used to taking pictures in that type of lighting.

You're right --- I do! That bear shot is exactly why I got the 1DX. Great low-light performance, fast focus, and fast frame rate. Animals typically only show up at dawn and dusk, and vanish whenever the light is good. I'm pretty happy with what this toy can do.Quote:

Nah, I've had that for a bit. I was just playing around with the Roki 35mm. In one of those lightbulb moments (facepalm), I discovered that manual focusing is infinitely easier if your diopter setting is correct. Just a couple clicks and suddenly everything was clear. Amazing how that works.Quote:
