Jonathan posted some Snow Owl shots the other day, which got me excited enough to go out to look for my own this morning. Turned out to be a good morning.
I went looking to get some Eagle shots yesterday, but got skunked. Today I went to find Snow Owls, and ended up finding an eagle as well.
The light was not the greatest, and I kept goofing up the exposure; but these turned out half way good.
Not the best perch with the owl:

The Eagle still has blood on its beak... so I guess I came up on him just after breakfast.

@Pat, those snow owls are cute as. And the eagle, well... majestic. Nice.
All that eagle needs is an American Flag floating behind it and you'd have one cliche image. Great shot.
That is a successful drive. Nice pictures Pat. I especially like the snowy.
Beautiful shots, Pat! I have yet to find a snowy owl in my travels and would be so thrilled to come across one!!
@ Pat, A snowy owl is definitely something I'd like to add to my collection. Nice capture. I should learn about their habitat. The eagle shot gets me excited. Can't wait for the Mississip to freeze over.

Taken in the summer on a short cruise around Malta, these are the cliffs of Comino.
Thank you all for your kind words.
Denise - A few posts back, Johnathan Huyer provided a link that people use to report sightings. If you zoom in on the map and then click on the map markers (red ones are the recent signtings), then the location and date of the sighting pops up. For example, in Kenosha there was a sighting on Dec 4th at the Southport Marina (I think they like to hang out where ducks and seaguls are).
Here is the link: http://ebird.org/ebird/map/snoowl1?b...=2007&eyr=2011
Hope that helps... and thank you Johnathan.
Pat
Oh wow, thanks Pat (and Jonathan)! I don't know how I missed seeing this link when Jonathan posted it originally!! I see seven people spotted them at North Point Marina which is only 15 minutes from where I live and I pass there when I go looking for deer. In fact, I was just past there yesterday!
Thanks again ...this will be VERY helpful!
Spectacular, Pat! You were lucky to get one at eye level... most of my sightings are way up high on power poles. The background also worked out really well for your shots. A nice early Christmas treat!
Oh lucky me! Came across this gorgeous wolf on a quiet back road in Banff this morning.
Canon 1D3, 300 mm f/2.8 lens, 1/320 sec @ f/3.5, ISO 400
(Silly me should have used ISO 800, and I would have had a few more keepers. But I'm glad that this one came out tack sharp).

Oh wow, Jonathan! That is one beautiful shot!
Well, I went scouting today for snowy owls and didn't spot a one but I am on a mission and hopefully will see one soon!
In the meantime, ducks will just have to do and deer of course but I figure you have seen enough of them from me!

Jonathan - That is a great shot of a wolf. You certainly seem to live in a great for photography, but I would imagine it is still difficult to run across a wolf (and/or a lot of patience). Cool shot!
Denise - Some really nice duck shots. Very sharp.
This is how we do an Aussie Christmas meal. No egg nog, no turkey, no snow and no salad or veggies. Just hot weather, plenty of seafood and where I am that means prawns, Morteon Bay bugs and oysters and cold Chardonnay. It may not be politically or dietarily( I don't think that's a word, who cares) correct, but it suits us just fine.

Merry merry to all and thanks for viewing.

Denise, I like the shot of your red breasted merganser---what did the red reflections in the water come from?
I saw this girl playing down by the lake the other day and couldn't resist taking a few shots. Not the lens of choice for this so most shots I was too close but I did manage to catch a few without cutting off a limb!

Great shots Denise, standard poodles have so much personality and energy you did well to capture these. And a beautiful shot of Krista Joy.

Nice zoo photos, Mark! Thanks for reminding me that it has been awhile since I've been to the zoo ...maybe it is time to take a trip there since I am getting really bored with what I have been shooting lately!

Hi, I tried to take some photos of a local fireworks show on new year's eve. This was my first attempt at fireworks and I found out it was quite difficult. Focusing and exposure was the easy part but framing and timing was tricky (no, I hadn't yet got to the wine). The explosions were spread over the sky and it took a bit of luck to get the entire "flower" nicely placed in the frame. Most of them were shot in sequence with little or no time between which also made it difficult to get an exposure with not too many explsions in it. However, out of around 20 shots during 10 minutes these two came out OK.
Lesson learned: The fireworks spread over the sky more than expected. Next time I will bring a wider lens.

Beautiful fireworks!! You would never think it was your first time shooting them!! Most I have seen show only the fireworks high in the sky ...I love how you were able to include such a low ground level in the shots!

what a pretty bird!!!, Denise, hope I can see it in person someday.
Thanks, JJ! They surely are beautiful but I found them the hardest birds so far to photograph! Not just trying not to blow out the details but with the eyes being so set in, it made getting equal exposure on the each eye very difficult. For most of my shots, either both eyes are completely shadowed or just one!
Great picture Denise

Just moved back to Florida. This state spoils you for wildlife, usually just birds, but this guy was very photogenic.
