well September was an interesting month, the first week i had a small vacation and tried out kayaking for the first time (@Brant), it was awesome!, i bought a vibe seaghost 130 fishing kayak, (i'm hefty so i needed a bigger one) had fun and took some good shots too! but the next three week i had covid delta... it wasn't that bad for me, i was just incredibly tired, (still am kinda) had a bad cough and such, doing better now though.
here's some shot i got kayaking

there are some just flat out amazing photos on this thread. what an inspiration.
Look who showed up in my backyard!

I was actually about to head out, saw him running across my front yard. Of course, I ran to get my camera. Must have jumped my neighbors fence and I caught him in my backyard.
A few last images of my trip to Banff National Park. For those wondering, there is a conference I attend regularly in Banff in October. It went virtual in 2020, but was back on in 2021 with pretty stringent protocols. But, I was able to attend this year. A few last pictures....
This is the Three Sisters Viewpoint. Which cracks me up a bit that you can find it officially on google maps as it is not really an official viewpoint, but rather a bend in the river created by floods a few years ago. When Jonathan first showed me the spot a couple years ago, there were a couple other people there. The Saturday morning after the conference, it was a wall of people....but..

Yup! Even when you think it's waaaay too dark out to get a shot, just keep shooting! Photographed last week near Jasper National Park.

Also, just to talk about it, below is one of the way I envision using tilt-shifted Mamiya lenses. This is the 45 f/2.8 at f/2.8 tilted and trying to run the focal plane along the path and into the sun. While I think some creative portraiture will be the more common use of this, I can see a few instances where they would have been fun like this, waterfalls in a canyon, etc.

I'm back from a week-long trip to Manitoba, during which time I spent a few days in Riding Mountain National Park searching for lynx with another photographer. It took quite a lot of effort, with a persistence and stubborness that bordered on obsessive-compulsive, but it paid off with several sightings and a couple of very nice photo opportunities. I used the R5 almost exclusively (I also have the 1DXIII) and I have to say it worked very, very well. For wildlife I kept the focus on single-point mode, since I don't always trust the eye-detect to find the face in every encounter. The 12 fps maximum shot rate was slow for my taste but still quite okay. I think what I liked the best was the exposure brightness in the viewfinder, making it obvious when I needed to add or subtract compensation. That is hugely beneficial and takes away a lot of guesswork. So slowly but slowly, I think I'm turning into a mirrorless fan!
The nice thing about Riding Mountain park is that in the winter, it is pretty much abandoned of people. It helps that the place is a 3-hour drive from Winnipeg. Really, the only ones out there are photographers, looking for lynx! And there were just 3 other vehicles during the time we were there. We got along great and shared information with each other, working diligently to track the cats down. It helped immensely.
The lynx population rises and falls with the availability of snowshoe hares, on about a 10-year cycle. The thought is that the local peak happened a couple years ago, and the numbers are on the decline at the moment. March is a good time to go, since it is mating season and the males can be heard calling (an incredibly wild sound), and will be more active during the day.

Greats shots, but I don't think those are actually the same male.
Hard to say for sure in the low on-target pixel count of the first shot, but the forehead striping looks different. I see neither the tan edge, or dark patch near the top, of the extended paw from the first shot in the second shot. The other foreleg looks to have faint horizontal stripes, vs. a vertical patch and some speckling.
I think they're different kitties.
edit: No black spot halfway up the nose either. Definitely different kitties.
Epic stuff there Jonathan!

was on my back porch yesterday after a small storm went through, i saw this and ran for my camera!
only lasted for about 40 seconds but i'm glad i at least got this shot, it was a very interesting phenomenon, looked like a hole in the sky was sucking up the surrounding clouds!

I still don't have much time for photography, but I got this shot early this morning with my R6 and RF 100-400, on my balcony.

Work trips are coming back around. The week before last was meetings and a presentation in France and then Germany.
With photography not being the focus, there are only a few others that I think will be worth posting.
But Monday morning meetings means you have Sunday night and here are a few from a walk along the Seine.

Anyway, thanks for viewing...Brant
Brant, I think we we in France about the same time, but for me this was a long-postponed (Covid) trip to celebrate retirement. NO meetings!
We used Arles as a base for side trips, but it is a charming place in its own right. There was a festival in the main square to celebrate VE Day while we were there. Old vehicles and group dances with a DJ and some pros helping the people on stage.

Hey Danny,
Yep, we were there at the same time. Glad you finally had the chance to take your retirement celebration trip. While I enjoyed being over there, I am sure you had more fun.
Nice set of images!

I hadn't posted many photos with people from the trip to France.
First is a fashionable woman scooting down the street where we stayed in Arles.
In the US it seems I mainly see the very young and the very casual (like wearing a hoodie) on an electric scooter.
