John, I am waiting to see your hands on thoughts. Like Rick, I am currently very happy with my 1D IV and do not feel pushed towards the 1D X (yet). I am currently happy with the one-two of the 1D IV...

    Second neuro's welcome back.

I have not used the 400D, but neuro's observations seem spot on to me. I have a 50D and it is a great body. If you can get one in almost new condition for a good...

    Re: Choose Two Lenses

I second the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS and the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II vote.

My first non-kit lens was the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS and and my second was the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS I. I still love both...

    Re: Mixing Canon and Nikon?

I would stay with Canon for the reasons already given.

I would recommend at least a 50D since you may need the AF microadjust feature that starts with the 50D model. The 40D is a...
  8. Re: Notes on Lens and Camera Variation (LensRentals.com)

It is truly good stuff. For me, Roger's blog is a must read.

Nick, you may want to also look at the "Roger’s Take" section on most rental pages. He really sums it up in a easy, funny...

Re: How should I handle this?

    Hey Denise,

First, let me agree with everyone else and state the obvious; you are being too hard on yourself. I like the first and the crop the best, but they are all acceptable and I am sure...

    w349,

I do not know where you are, but personally I am leery of buying things on fleabay directly from China. I just think the transaction has too many ways to sour.

  11. Re: Anyone own a Lowepro lens case 2 and a Canon 70-200 f/4 (IS)?

I do not have the 70-200 f/4 IS, but the lens case 2 is 3.5" in diameter inside. If that helps, the bad news is you may not be able to find a lens case 2. Lowepro has revamped their lens case line...

Earlier this year I bought my EF 100mm f/2.8 L IS USM Macro Lens from Canon and it is great. In fact, other than the ginormous Canon refurbished box it came in, you would be hard...

  22. Re: A general purpose lens that takes sharp pictures.

It really is hard to stop at one. In full disclosure, I have the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM, EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM and the EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM. The EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM yields the best...

  24. Re: A general purpose lens that takes sharp pictures.

    Welcome Tack Sharp,

I would go with the EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM of the two choices you listed. I have the EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM, but on a APS-C 1.6 crop Canon, such as the T3i, 24mm is...

    Re: Circular polarizer

    Welcome naturac,

Your thoughts are mostly correct, a good polarizer is is certainly a part of any good kit. And with what you are shooting a polarizer will certainly be useful.
