There is a feature on some cameras that actually captures some frames that happened before you pressed the shutter ... not sure what they call this .... but comes in very handy when trying to capture...

My experience is similar to Brant with BIF, it's not 100% perfect but works very very well
Even at extreme distances the Eye AF performs amazingly well:

I have had some fun with the R5 and flight shots of the pair of Tanagers in my yard. The key is that I noticed they have a very consistent flight path to and from the feeders....
