    Re: Canon 5D mkII... now?

Very good advice. Beyond that though, I say buy the 5D II. It is an excellent camera. I've had one for a year, and still gasp at the amazing photos it delivers.

    It's always difficult deciding...

Congratulations, Matt - your photograph was my personal favorite.

Excellent choices! I've cast my vote.[:)]

You're being too hard on yourself![:)] I think your photograph is both original and fabulous! I love the way you have used light.
  12. Re: 5DmkII or EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS: which one to buy first?

I think you'll be happy with either choice (I own both). If it was me, I'd toss a coin. [:)]

Re: Do I need a monopod?

I also do not use a monopod a lot (always preferring a tripod where possible), but the one lens I use mine most with is indeed the EF 100-400mm. It's very handy for steadying that lens in places...

    Re: Arca-Swiss Z1 Decision

I have the dual pan Arca-Swiss and a leveling Gitzo tripod - you could say that is angle-potential overkill, but I find the dual pan head very useful indeed. It's rock-solid too when locked. Possibly...

Re: Does anybody agree with this?

No - not obsolete. Not only are there certain types of shot that require one to get anything approaching decent results (long exposures, panoramas etc.), merely having and setting up a tripod causes...

    Re: 70-200 f2.8L IS

As you yourself point out, getting the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS, will give you a wider aperture lens, always useful in terms of both low light and depth of field. I don't think you'll find the IQ of this...

Re: 7D Owners - Feedback Please...

I've had the 7D since last November. I love it. I use it just as much as my 5D II and see no real world difference in quality between images from the two cameras for the bulk of my photography. Only...

Re: use it or loose it

I think you raise an interesting point. I, myself, feel an initial reluctance after, having spent a lot of money on some camera or lens, to actually take it out into the real world where it gets...

  23. Re: EF-S 15-85 f/3.5-5.6 is usm vs. EF 24-105 f/4 L on 7D

I don't know about the EF-S 15-85 f/3.5-5.6, but I use a 24-105 f/4 L on my 7D for mid-range shooting biased to the long side. The image quality is excellent.

That said, as Sheiky points out,...
  24. Re: Benro C-297M8 HVC Carbon Fiber Flexpod C-Series Tripod - Good or Bad Choice

I'm only going to be partially helpful here as I don't know the Benro tripod and cannot give you an opinion on it. What I can say is that I've had the Gitzo GT2530LVL (since replaced by the...
  25. Re: EF 70-200 f/4L non-IS now, and/or 70-200 f/2.8 IS later?

Go for instant gratification. I have both and even though I've had my 70-200mm f/2.8 IS for a couple of years, I still like to use the 70-200mm f/4 non-IS. Why? Because it is lighter and therefore...
