  2. Re: DPReview Latest Score: Canon vs Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 IS/VR Version II

Yeah, some people might be interested to know if the predecessor is discontinued or going to discontinue very soon so they can get a cheaper mark I that they might have planned for a while. That's...
  3. Re: DPReview Latest Score: Canon vs Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 IS/VR Version II

A little off-topic, but 70-200 2.8 IS Mark I has listed as "discontinued" on Canon HK!

  4. Any recent experience on 50 1.2L focus-shift issue?

I've been checking this lens since its announcement 3.5 years ago.

Heard about many focus-shift issues (while some say back-focusing issue that I think it's misleading) that are caused by the...

  7. Re: Canon 70-200 2.8 IS L (Mark I) not tripod sensing

No, there is no tripod sensing -- AFAIK.

But as a rule of thumb, when you put IS lens on a tripod, you should turn the IS off. It's because even the slightest IS detection/movement will create...
  8. Re: For Sale: Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens

good idea... let me do it over the weekend... basically the lens does NOT have any cosmetic trace of being used... only the hood shows some trace (you know, plastic is so subject to scratches -- not...

    Re: 24-105 to 24-70

I second neuroanatomist in this aspect. The shallower DoF at f/2.8 on 24-70 is not something the f/4 on 24-105 can easily achieve. Shallow DoF can be one of the important factors to consider between...
  12. Re: Lenses....some Focus faster than others...

I think USM can even have different implementations on different lens models.

Plus, different lens' USM will need to move different set(s) of glasses to autofocus. For very fast lenses, it takes...
  13. Re: "TOO MUCH CAMERA" .... is there such a thing???

I totally agree with neuroanatomist. I started with the same 2 zooms that jks has. My wife and I shoot portraits and events too. But now our 85 f/1.2L Mk II is winning (in many ways) and the 2 zooms...
  14. Re: When an outdoor shot has to be captured, no exceptions, do some HDR work

Did you use regular Photoshop layering technique or CS4's "File > Automate > Merge to HDR" ?

I used "Merge to HDR" a couple times but the outcome is always too overexposed (my source files are...

Re: EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM

First of all, I want to say MTF is just one of many factors (e.g. n-stop IS/VR, AF, etc) to quantitatively compare lenses.

But the good thing is MTF is objective so it's easy to compare.

Whether it's marginal or not, it depends on your value.

  17. Why doesn't Canon (or Nikon) make their flashes radio-wireless-communicable?

I originally thought RadioPopper JrX can support ETTL but I now realize it's manual and that's why it's affordable.

I think I still like RP PX the best. But the requirement of having
    a master...

  19. Re: ND Filter or Stop Down on Exposure Compensation?

    That's a good point!

Another good point. And I suspect that many other users are also using it for f/1.8 (popular for Nikkor and Canon's glasses) or even f/2. Then 0.6 might be enough......
  20. Re: ND Filter or Stop Down on Exposure Compensation?

    Thanks Daniel and neuroanatomist.

So 0.9 is 3 stop reduction. Would the reduction be too much by your experience? Heard froma well known online filter reseller that B+W's 0.6 is the most...
  21. ND Filter or Stop Down on Exposure Compensation?

I am really happy with the bokeh of the 85 f/1.2 L II. However, f/1.2 could be subject to over-exposure if using outdoor, even if I change to use lowest ISO and very fast shutter speed.

    So...

    Re: Charging eneloop batteries

I am using Sanyo 2700 mAh NiMH on my 580 EX II. I also have Eneloop as backup (coz they are 2000 mAh only). The 2700 mAh ones seem to be working great except for the long charging time before each...
