Thanks for your input (and for helping this get back on topic [;)]). I have used the 70-200 f4L for sports on a few occasions (borrowing it from my dad), and it did quite well. As it got further into...
I completely agree with you neuroanatomist.
Moose Peterson does have a 600mm lens, but I believe the only area of wildlife photography where he uses that lens frequently is bird photography. For...
I wouldn't say that's a main goal for wildlife photography. The goal is to photograph the animal with good composition that tells a story. I understand and honor your point of view, but I believe...
Well, we got off topic here. [:D]
But oh well, I'll add my closing comment to the latest posts here.
I do believe that super-high-resolution is extremely important in some cases. But I feel...
Glad you got it working. [:)]
scalesusa,
Great shots with an awesome lens! I have also been contemplating the future purchase of the Canon 600mm f/4L non-IS. I'd love to hear some detailed feedback from you when you get the...
I've only had something slightly similar happen to my 20D a few times. Two of the times it was when using AI Servo and it gave me an error... forget what number it gave me (maybe Err 20 or Err 99?...
You've just confirmed it for me John. I've been coming to the same conclusions. Thanks for your input! [:)]

I was actually thinking of a used 1D3 which can be found around $2000. So the price difference would be about $500 I think. I think I agree with you though, get the 7D first and then eventually a 1D4...
That's my conclusion too at this point.
Thanks again for all of your advice. It's been really helpful. [:)]
Any takers on a 1D Mark III vs 7D debate? [;)]
Wow, thanks for all of your responses. This forum rocks! [:)]
Ok, I'll try to reply to all of your suggestions in order here...
neuroanatomist,
I do believe that if I got the 300mm f/4L...
Thanks for your response neuroanatomist.
By "in the $1000 range", I mean above $1000 but not too much more than that... around $1500 max (allows for 100-400 like you suggested).
I've...

Hi everyone,
I've been researching telephoto lenses lately as I think I may desire to get into some serious wildlife photography and possibly some sports photography in my future. To...

So you only want your initials in the logo? Do you have any other suggestions as to what you want in it? I'm not a professional graphic designer, but I'd like to have a go at it. I've done a couple...
Just wanted to share this with you all... at B&H there are two awesome used telephoto primes. The Canon EF 400mm f/2.8L IIat $3,999and the Canon EF 500mm f/4.5L at $3,199.
...
1D Mark II or 5D Original for around $1,000 used. :)
Just wanted to share something I've been dreaming about on B&H's used store:http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/800679747-USE/Canon_C218382_Telephoto_400mm_f_2_8L_II.html

+1 to kelbytraining.com. Tons of stuff on there from the best teachers. Though if you only want a photography class, kelbytraining might not be what you're looking for. It's more spread out on...
I also agree with the 70-200 f/4L option. Amazing lens. My dad owns this one too. Most of his keeper shots are taken with this lens. It's a joy to use. I highly recommend it over the 55-250.
...
I agree with the Tamron 17-50 option. Very good lens. You probably won't need the 50mm if you get the Tamron. I personally would still get it just for the fun and creativity that comes with shooting...
I think the 16-35 L is all there is if you want f/2.8, under 24mm, and full frame + crop compatibility. Looks like that's the best choice for you, especially since you already have the 24-105.
...
The 16-35 equals approximately 26-56mm on the 7D's sensor.
So are you looking for a lens mostly for shooting surfers with your 7D? But you want that lens to be used on your 5DMKII sometimes too?...
As Colin said, since you have a full frame camera, I definitely suggest you get the 16-35 L. If you want a wide angle to shoot landscapes, the 5DMKII with a 16-35 L will be a much better option than...
