In the first shot I was focusing on the girl at the podium. In the second shot I am not 100% certain but I believe I focused on the girl receiving the reward. The third shot was focused on the women...

Camera is a T2i. I was using a 430 flash but with the distance I don't think it was doing much. So if I understand correctly increase the ISO, get that shutter speed up around 320. Deal with noise on...
AF was set to single and I was using the center point. Given the fact that the camera was already opened as far as it would go I guess I would have had to increase ISO? I was concerned about noise.
So last night I went to a friend's 8th grade graduation and took dozens of shots. I used a 135mm prime lens because it would go to an F2.0 so I could deal with the lighting. I shot on AV. Two things...
Steve, I had enough of a time getting the Buffalo to sign the models agreement, much less trying to get them to pose!:D
Well, I feel like I am starting to get the hang of outdoor landscape photography. I will be curious to get everyone's thoughts.
On my monitor here at the shop the buffalo look a little bright but...
I took a class last night in beginner photography. Took in the Rebel which was bad enough compared to a lot of what the others had. Left the 70-200 in the truck because even worse then what the rest...
Sounds like light room may suite my needs. More looking for immediate feedback on image quality, etc.
Will it allow some basic manipulation, just to get an idea of how the image looks?
Obviuosly actual editing would occur in lightroom
I am just curious what software is being used when shooting with a dslr directly to a laptop? I took a class last night and the instructor was shooting directly to a Mac. I asked about the software...
Clemmb,
Thanks for that explanation. That was indeed what I was doing. Took a few more shots today - very overcast so not really enough light but still I think I am developing a clear beginner's...
:D
Chad - Thanks. That is probably a great idea. Hopefully no snow this friday and I will get a chance to do exactly that.
I am also taking the first 2 hours of a 4 hour class tomorrow night....
Regarding Noise: Actually more in the 100 to 125' foot range. At 125', 70mm, F4 to DOF calculator shows 78' near limit, 304' far limit. When I zoom in on the pine needles of the tree in the original...
HDNitehawk,
So if I am thinking of this correctly the only way to have increased shutter speed would have also been to increase my ISO thereby adding more potential noise, correct? So maybe...
Clemmb,
It is an image stabilized lens. 70-200 F4 L IS USM
I am not sure I can see the difference. The branch looks a touch clearer then the line, is that why you would say that? _
OK. Took four more pictures. All at aperature priorty, auto ISO. Used auto ISO just so I could get an idea what ISO the camera would select. Here are links to two of the photos. Both are untouched....
First of all, Thank you to everyone for the answers and the time taken to write them. I have read through everything at least once and I know I will read through it all a couple more times. I am...
OK, so now I am beginning to understand it more. I will retake some shots at lunch time and upload them tonight following the above advice. Thanks!
Sorry, should have pointed out that I was not going for composition. That hill is out behind work, I was more just looking for the technical aspect. I will reshoot today at F5.6 and F8 and ISO on...
After reading everyone's advice and comments I went out and took a bunch more shots. Unfortunately I did not take any below an ISO of 800 ( thought I had, but did not) I did try a bunch of different...
Sean,
I thought the rider looked a bit out of focus also. This was one of a three frames shot using a burst. I focused the first shot using auto focus, held the shutter and followed the rider...

I will have to upload photo details this evening as I...
A lot of firsts today. First post on this forum, first action shot, first time using new 70-200 F4L IS Lens. And actually only about the third time using new camera (Rebel 2Ti). Prior to this I have...
