You are right. Of course what I really want is the camera to implement a scripting language. Expose all features as functions in that scripting language. Let me assign a custom script to all buttons....
Exactly! (One wheel would be aperture/exposure time balance, and the other one could be a choice of anything else that you can put on a wheel.) Plus this is a really simple thing to implement.
What I'm suggesting is not an automatic or semi-automatic exposure. I'm running around somewhere, shooting in M as usual. At some point I want to change the depth-of-field but the exposure I chose...
It does? Seems that I haven't used P-Mode in a while :-)
I would still want the initial exposure to be selected manually, however when I switch from M to P the current exposure settings aren't...
"A combination of both shutter and aperture priority modes"?
I'm not quite sure whether you are just giving this feature a different formulation, or whether I didn't explain the feature well...
My 50L is crying in a corner. Then again, I got it as upgrade to the LensBaby SoftFocus, so I'm quite happy with it's sharpness, and sometimes it outright surprises me :-)
Thanks, that's interesting. I've been thinking about a 10-stop filter for a while now, and while most of my pictures end up in black-and-white, not all of them do...
Does that require anything more sophisticated than a manual WB?
There's a somewhat related feature that doesn't seem to be included yet, exposure lock in M mode. That should be pretty easy to add, too, in particular since the AE button doesn't have any other job...
Thing is, it's about time to leave behind these legacy restrictions and use today's possibilities for user interface design and customisation. I was also negatively surprised by this not being...
What I don't like about either is that I can't directly and simply change a C# mode from M to Av...
But that reflects real-world usage - you compensate for the crop-factor. What you are suggesting is interesting, too, but given that it's more of theoretical interest I'd say Bryan is doing the right...
Well said.
Btw, I have both the nifty fifty and the 50L, and use both, on a 1DX, depending on what's going on. (With the nifty fifty I can laugh it off when a kid happens to touch the lens.)

Super-tele is not one of my main use cases, in fact I haven't got anything beyond 200mm, so for me it's just a cheap possibility to play around with some focal lengths that are not my primary (or...
Well, I'm considering one for my 1DX :-)
Has anybody already got one???
Hi all,
stumbling over the term "iso-less" a couple of times made me think about what that actually means, and here is my outcome:
Would that simply be a camera where increasing the analog gain...
I like this idea and the reasoning behind it. I don't know yet what I'll try to shoot, but I like it :-)
Nice, I had some trouble choosing where to put my vote :-)
Great, so you're on top of it already :-)
Now, even if you don't do a full review, do you think you could write a couple of words regarding your take on the build quality?
PS: You wrote...
I challenged myself to do a decent still-life. It's a genre that I don't particularly like and that I've never looked into, except for one or two other assignments here (the one with the fractal...
Hi everybody, and sorry for the delay -- was mainly due to the snow and ice which disrupted my two week trip around central Europe a bit.
I've now chosen the finalists and informed Sheiky, as...
Thanks again, everyone, and thanks to Sheiky for the coordination ... now for the next round ;-)
Oops, I had already forgotten about the "Water" assignment! Anyhow, I suppose the movement of the water just has to fit together with the exposure time, and I was lucky that it did...
Wow, and thanks everybody! This was an interesting round!
I can now admit that my picture was more or less the result of being in the wrong place at the wrong time with the wrong equipment ;-)
