Thanks for the reply. The 7D thing was just for comparison and not under consideration, so let me just kill that off before my head explodes :D

Thanks for the reply. The 7D thing was just for comparison and not under consideration, so let me just kill that off before my head explodes :D
But thanks for the input on the different primes, it's...
That's an excellent shot indeed, and I think the main reason for going primes should be the low-light capabilities or a similar characteristic - not so much the sharpness which is excellent with...
Thanks for the help and interest John, I feel like I'm getting closer to a solution :)
I'll research your last couple of suggestions as well as the mirrorless cameras a bit more thoroughly then.
The comment about hiking the AT was mainly to find out what Ehcalum brought with him on that particular trip (or would bring with him on such a trip today) - I don't have any plans to do the hike...
I'm listening to all you say, and I'm starting to agree that I can't really go all primes after all, but will have to acquire a minimum of zooms to fill in gaps. But I also don't really feel the need...
Thanks for the samples, Dave. I think those are quite convincing.
John: I read your link, and I think it makes a very solid point on the ultra-wide angles being sensitive to composition. That's...
Ok, I was under the same impression. I think a wide-angle and tele-lens will do just fine for a hike or travelling in the wilds - the middle area (50-ish mm) will have to be covered later on. Whether...
Thanks for the comment, you mention quite a few different lenses, but I'd be interested to know what you bring with you, when hiking the AT?
I was also wondering how much you use that 50mm and for...
It seems the 70-200 f/2.8 IS II gets a lot of praise, so I'll probably take it into further consideration. I'm aware that going primes only is quite a compromise and may cause quite a few missed...
Yes, you're right about the prices sneaking up on 5D III-levels, but I'm not really sold on the new 5D features and the added costs. Besides, there should be some decent chances of making a good...
I'm getting more and more keen on a 135/24mm combo. I just checked up on the 1.4/2x-extenders on B&H, and according to them the latest version of those extenders fit the 135, but not the 100mm L...
You guys are really getting the inside of my skull spinning - it's good to know the machinery still works :)
As to the previous discussion about the logic behind primes vs zooms: I believe I am...
Thanks for all the comments!
I think that might be a good compromise weight-wise, even though I'll miss IS as HDNitehawk notes. Nonetheless I'd be very interested in hearing your experiences...
Do you really think the zoom-capabilities is worth the extra weight when travelling? I'm quite skeptical on especially the 70-200 f/2.8 IS - that's quite a load, when trekking in the mountains. :)
Hello fellow photographers,
I'm new here, so please don't trap my soul in your little black boxes...
I need some help deciding on a new lens-setup after finally selling my trusty old Canon...
