I guess my bigger deal is not that DPAF didn't focus in ridiculously low light. Or if it is even ussuable for different applications. As a whole DPAF didn't live up to PDAF. And in my view with all...

I guess my bigger deal is not that DPAF didn't focus in ridiculously low light. Or if it is even ussuable for different applications. As a whole DPAF didn't live up to PDAF. And in my view with all...
Indeed, and it is possible I did something wrong or there are some setting I could have done differently.
But as you said these are incredibly extreme examples and hardly can be considered poor...
I will be getting my hands on the 1DX III soon again along with the 50mm f/1.2, 24-105mm II, 5D IV and 600RT III flash.
So I will be able to do a more in depth comparisons.
I have not had an issue with focusing on the stars. I would assume because of the contrast. Even my 1D III or T2i can do that.
I will post a pic of what I was having a hard time. But it was taking...
Perhaps, but I tested this with the 50mm f/1.2 and the Canon 24-105mm f/4. In every lens the PDAF outperform the DPAF significantly in low light. In bright light it was fine, but even with indoor...
Yes, my experience was with a rented 1DX III only and I didn't have the pleasure of comparing them side by side with the R5.
DPAF was fine with good lighting but it never did live up to the PDAF...
This really could also be titled phase detect AF vs dual pixel AF.
So one of the things that surprised the socks off of me was that normal AF was far superior to dual pixel in even moderate low...
All good points, I don't think there is nessarily a wrong answer given so far. If they do make an RF replacement for the 1DX III very soon than I can see them not making a successor. But even then,...
So I had the glorious opportunity to rent the 1DX III. But it got me thinking, do you guys think it will be the last of the 1-series? My hypothesis is it may get one more refresh before being...
I'm sure in RAW, and a few tweaks with the HLS function, levels and curves on a individual color basis. You could bring out more of the blue that he was pointing out. What I am seeing is just the...
Yeah, I realize that CR doesn't know anything really past what Canon is willing release either through an interview, press release ect.
But one can hope.:D
The lenses that interest me the most are the 10-24mm f/4, 35mm f/1.2, 135mm f/1.4, 800mm f/5.6 and 1200mm f/8. These are some nutty lenses!!!! Wow.

Congrats! I am very much looking forward to your feedback, what kind of images it can produce and how it's features compare to the current crop of Canon bodies in terms of getting the shot.
I'd have to agree. Besides we have good options now with 600mm f/6.3 lenses by Sigma and Tamron. They are far more useable for BIF and are reasonably priced (Relatively speaking of course.).
I see...
At Jonathan,
How do you feel the noise compares to the 1Dx II (Or just in general) in real life? It seems to be better but have a weird darkness to them (For lack of better words) in Bryans crops...
Possibly, but I want to build my lens collection first and I don't mind waiting for the used market of RF lenses and bodies to start populating. I usually buy used. I prefer the next guy to buy...
Also if you brighten it up a bit and use some vignette to draw in the subject can give you that darker feel but still draw the subject in. Otherwise it gets to dark overall. A little goes a long way,...
@clemmb
I got it for $342 with tax and shipping (Or $300 before tax and shipping). It came with an extra OEM battery, dual charger, AC adapter, AA adapter and some basic CF cards. I feel I got a...
Me likey, I like the flair on the Cardinal. It adds a cool halo effect. It's as if the bird is saying, I'm a holy bird.:D
I especially love the Summer Tanager. My style of photograph with lots of buttery smooth bokeh.
Same here! Wood ducks are amazing. As soon as I get back from working over a week out of town I'm gonna see if I can't find some. A couple of years ago I found a place where they hang out.
Boy, we sure got derailed! First we
were talking about high MP and then moved on to more fun things. Birding. Haha. :D
Used water for a long time along with food. Never was in short supply for birdy subjects.
Absolutely, if I had the means I be using a 800mm L and 1200mm L with a 1DX III and a high resolution FF. Maybe even a high res 1.6 for nutty reach. Probably Mirrorless because of the killer EVF for...
Oh yeah, if I had my choice of camera it be a phase one. I am honestly not that stoked by the GFX medium format. Sensor is smaller than the lenses it mounts and the colors and color accuracy is not...
