Thanks everyone. I've got a little hung up on this detail, so in future I will trust my gut more. :)
I know what you mean, but I think that is user error. Have a look at this article from Luminous Landscapes: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/focusing-ts.shtml
The author writes: "For...
Okay, so everyone knows that converging verticals can be a distracting photographic element. They can also be used to artistic effect. However, I've always had a hard time deciding where the line...
Also, check out the "Post your Pets" thread in the Show & Tell forum for ideas.
I'll keep my tip simple: Get low.
It will generally provide a more pleasing perspective for little animals.
Photos with dogs running towards the camera, ideally outdoors, are usually nice. With...
I believe it was the latter half of a 200m fly. His technique wasn't great, but it made for the more impressive photograph.
I really haven't a clue, but I was amused by the comment left on it.
Apologies for my unhelpful reply - at least you're smart enough to have insurance!
I tend to shoot in AWB (auto white balance) most of the time because that way, in post, I get all of the pre-set white balances, and the raw converter's auto white balance option, and the camera's...
Ah I see, yes the newer version is called the 60D. I'm afraid I don't know anything about the D60 but as long as it shoots RAW and the files are supported, the advice above is the same. :)
Yes, those are decent catchlights. I noticed you said you have D60 - do you actually mean the 60D? (Canon made both but the D60 is significantly older).
While I was thinking about white balance it occurred to me that up to ten percent of men are red-green colour blind. If the before/after example I posted isn't completely night and day this might be...
Had a break for some lunch... continuing with the critique. Pay attention to your backgrounds; if they are cluttered and/or colourful they can distract from your subject. They can also provide...
I'll offer my input on the 4 pictures you've posted. White balance seems to be a consistent issue for you. The first photo is too green, for sure. Shooting RAW is the easiest way to correct odd...
I agree with Sheiky that swimming is one of the best sports to take photos of, although I find it particularly challenging to get the right facial expression that I'm looking for. People pull all...
M_Six, I love your cat. He looks so chunky and lazy!
Hahaha! I'm sorry but that picture is hilarious. Kudos to your girlfriend.
I'd pick the IS version I because it has weather sealing, whereas the f/2.8 non-IS doesn't. Could be make or break during a wedding downpour.
Also... sometimes during weddings you're struggling to...
The default ACR camera profile is "Adobe Standard", which is quite liberal on the saturation.
Open the Camera Calibration tab in ACR and alter the camera profile to your taste.
I appreciate the effort and I've underlined the things that I would really like in a body, but they're just not important enough to me to justify the price gap. Currently I've still got both on...
I thought I'd revive this semi-retired thread by saying I've decided after having the 1D X on pre-order since November, I have changed my mind. I will cancel the 1D X pre-order and place one for a 5D...
Right, with regards to the content of the image... Overall a nice photo from a beginner. The exposure seems to be OK, however I think I'd prefer to perhaps see a bit more of the dog (dogs' ears are...

I think the licence plate is a really cute feature that they're sure to love... However, I think if you cloned it out completely it would be less distracting. It is cool though! I might also be...
Rather than this being my best landscape, I suppose it's my first landscape. I've recently decided to broaden my portfolio to include the odd landscape (why not, right?) so I set my alarm for 5am to...
