thinking about buying a new lens for summer this year. toss up between the 85 1.8 or the 100 2
i currently have a canon t2i Sigma 10-20 Canon 50 1.8,18-135 and 75-300
i shoot in all natural light no matter what. sports portraits, around town and anything else.
budget like 500 tops. is it worth it?

I think you mean the Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM ?

On our T1i and 7D we loved the 85mm. Probably our most used lens. So very much worth it.
Strangely, we don't like the 85mm much on fullframe, and tend to shoot with the cheap 50mm f/1.8 instead.
I've got both the 85/1.8 and 100/2.0.
Really, they're identical twins, both about the same size, weight, and all that.
85/1.8 is wildly more popular than the 100/2.0, so if you're buying second-hand then you're way more likely to find one, and find it cheaper.
Buying new, the 100/2.0 is just a bit more expensive. It's also 15mm longer focal length, and the 1.8 vs 2.0 you won't notice. And it's also a tiny bit sharper on test charts, but I haven't noticed in real life.
Frankly, I couldn't deicde which to get, so I got both within a few months of each other, and I use both on crop (7D) and FF (3) regularly depending on where i'm going and what i'm doing.
If you still can't decide, try thinking about what 'L' lens you're more likely to want/get later down the track, 100/2.8 L macro or 85/1.2 L, then buy the other focal length in the 1.8 or 2.0 aperture so you won't double up.
Or just get both.
An awful lot of electrons were terribly inconvenienced in the making of this post.

Set your 18-135mm lens to 85mm for a while, then to 100mm for a while. Which framing works better for you? Get that one...
+1 what neuro says, and in my personal opinion, 85mm is great for head-to-shoulders shots on a T2i; 100mm is a bit too long for me in portraits, but great for indoor sports.

i am still leaning on getting the 85. a lot cheaper and i can see my self busing it more then the longer 100.
guess i needed some backing before i went out and bought a new lens
